NY Airport transfer, LaGuardia to JFK?

Hi All :D

Well, as it's rapidly getting colder up here in the North East and my knees are gradually seizing up I've decided to throw caution (and the plastic!) to the wind and have a final fling before our AP's expire in early December :)

No chance of going charter from Newcastle or Manchester as no one can guarantee extra leg room for me and as quite a lot of the flights are Air2000 etc a 28' seat pitch will not do!.

Flying via Gatwick or Heathrow adds about £500 plus hotel/s to the costs so it's just as cheap to go scheduled which gives the option of KLM via Amsterdam or AA via Heathrow, cocts are about the same but AA have a min. of 33' seat pitch as standard so it looks like they are the ones to choose.

Now comes the question ......

Outbound Newcastle - Heathrow - Chicago O'Hare - Orlando

Return Orlando - NY La Guardia - NY JFK - Heathrow - Newcastle

So, has anyone done the NY transfer?, is there a shuttle or is it a find your own way type of thing?.

Why no Newcattle to Heathrow for about £50 then the AA Heathrow-Miami_Orlando or - Miami Drive up?

NY La Guardia to NY JFK isn't that far by road. I know because we travelled from Manhattan to JFK and went straight past La Guardia (the downside was that we got to JFK to find that we should actually be at Newark, but that's a different story altogether!!!). From recollection, La Guardia to JFK is around 15-20 minutes depending on traffic, but double check this.

I think I'd go along with AndrewP and fly direct into Miami from Heathrow with AA and then drive up. The drive isn't too bad and there's lots of service stations to stop off at along the turnpike.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the suggestion, I'm having a look now, the only thing about going to Heathrow or Gatwick seperately was the cost, about £400 plus a hotel for 5 of us for 1 or 2 nights. Flights outlined in my original post will cost £1629 for 5 of us.

There was a Virgin direct Heathrow to Miami flight listed but as Virgin are only 30 or 31" seat pitch and won't guarantee an exit or even bulkhead seat to a disabled passenger (who's also 6' 6"!) I'm trying to go with American Airlines because of the guaranteed minimum of 33" (usually 34 to 35") they had a direct flight to Miami but the return was via JFK so not much faster :(

All in all although the Virgin flight is faster there is still the drive up from Miami and with the flights to Heathrow included it works out more expensive and slightly longer!.

I'm using Airline Network for my flight searches as they always seem to be cheaper than Expedia, Opodo etc. unless you know of somewhere better of course :)

Do a lot of people need the JFK- LaGuardia Transfer????

I ask because my Dad is retired and lives 10 minutes from JFK and 20 minutes from LaGuardia--- I could get him business [:p]

I guess all he would need is his Taxi License!!![msnwink]

You can always get a cab outside the airport.

We travel AA LHR-Chicago-MCO twice a year and its always a good flight. Used to come back via Boston till AA cut that flight after 911. Whats wrong with coming back via Chicago if its not full as its a just a terminal transfer?

You could try 'first for Florida' on 01706-626037 as they have always produced good AA quotes for me.

Hi Dave, all the options I get using AA end up with a return via New York and changing airports there.

I have found another alternative via Gatwick with BA but again they only have 31" seat pitch and no World Traveller option on the flights. I rang them earlier and they would not guarantee a bulkhead or exit row seat, they would book one but could not guarantee it.

Ah well .... back to the great search :D

This is not always the case, i reckon that each large-ish travel firm has some sort of tie in with an airline or 2, these they offer very good deals with, anyone else has to pay the standard price. Really comes down to who you like flying with and your past dealings.

Also re seat pitch, swiss air have 32-33", but this would be a roundabout route unless there are flights from the north to geneva and then onto miami.

Sorry for the late reply, did you get your flights sorted? Just about the hotels near Heathrow, we paid £50 in total for the 5 of us to stay near Heathrow. AA-Miami may be your best route with the drive up to Orlando.

Hi Jeff,

We did the LGA to JFK transfer last year. Coaches run between the terminals and the cost was $11 for adults and kids under twelve were free. Journey time is about 40 minutes. I think they ran every twenty mins or so.
