View Full Version : quick or what?
we applied and posted my husbands pasport renewal last thursday tea time and his new passport was hand delivered this morning[msnoo]
impressive or what?
That is quick Marie, I have been debating having ours renewed before our trip at the end of March as they run out mid-May. I was worried that they would not arrive in time but I guess it may be the best time to do it now before it gets too busy in the year.
Karen, I may be totally wrong here, but I was under the impression that you need 6 months remaining on your passport expiry date to enter USA. It would probably be worth checking.

Does my British passport have to be valid for six months beyond my date of departure from the United States?
No, if your passport is not valid for at least six months beyond your date of departure from the United States, it will not affect your eligibility to travel. The United States has an agreement with the United Kingdom automatically extending the validity of a passport for six months past the passport's expiration date. Therefore, your passport need remain valid only for the duration of your stay in the United States.
If you are traveling visa free under the Visa Waiver Program and your passport is not valid for 90 days, you will be admitted into the United States until the date on which the passport expires.
seems like you only need a passport to be valid for your stay[msnwink]

Thanks Mike, Kath and Dave, I am going to send off the renewal forms tomorrow, better than waiting until we come back mid April, as it seems a lot busier at the passport offices the nearer you get to the summer months.
if you fill out the renewal forms online on the IPS website Kazzie they will then send them for you to sign (saves any mistakes) and you can go and get that all important photo in the meantime
my renewal should have gone off last thursday too but i had a strop about my photo, the photo was god awful and i suddenly realised that this hair growing thing just wasn't me and went to have it chopped and coloured the very next day, i'm going for new photos friday [msnwink]
btw you do not need your photos countersigning IF they can recognise you by your existing passport picture and with me well it was touch and go, i hardly recognised myself [msnembarrased]

Have to say I was impressed when I renewed my passport about 3 months ago - handed it in at the Post Office on the Monday and recieved the new one on the Thursday!
Trouble is it wouldn't be wise to rely on it!

Ours took just over a week using the check and send service at the post office but I did do it on a Friday so would have probably been quicker if the weekend had not been in the way. The woman was very picky though she decided the shadow on Oren's ear looked like a birthmark[msnoo] so we had to redo it. She also said you can't use brackets as the computer won't recognise them but it was a pre- printed form done by their computer [?][?][?]
