I do live in Avalon Park. It is off Alafaya Trail just south of East Colonial Drive in Orlando. It is in some ways like Celebration, same concept and similar tyoe houses but on a less grand scale. What is missing are the very big very expensive homes, we only have a few of those. The other homes are similar in style to Celebration ( though I have to say a lot cheaper) and it also has shops and restaurants round a lake in the middle. There are some good restaurants, Toscana is the best. Lots of shops but on of a more mundane type, no souvenir shops or shops selling teddy bears, but there is a Publix and CVS. It isnt in a tourist area and isnt a bit touristy ( no snow, no leaves!!) but is interesting to visit if only to make comparisons to Celebration. There are lot of events held in town throughout the year, we had a Bierfest in October, a wild west night and a Halloween night and then Avalon lights up for Christmas with a parade and Father Christmas Avalon is very near to the massive Waterford Lakes Mall and is worth a half day trip out if you combine the two.

If you like Celebration you might enjoy Lake Sumter Landing at The Villages. We visited The Villages for the first time last November and really enjoyed it. There are plenty of shops and restaurants, a boardwalk and in the afternoon you can take a trip on a small boat around the lake. There is a Starbucks and also a Johnny Rockets, a huge Barnes and Noble bookshop and lots of little shops including an English Tea Shop.

The only down side it that it took us about an hour to get there. The Villages is actually made up of 2 communties, the other one is called Spanish Springs (Spanish Spring is the smaller of the two).

The easiest way to find The Villages is to drive north on the US Hwy 27 towards Clermont and then continue north onwards to Lady Lake. Take a left turn at CR466A, and then turn right onto Morse Blvd. Continue along Morse Blvd and you will see Lake Sumter Landing on your left. This is the larger community and the one I recommend you visit first.

If you check the events section on that website, you will see that the next one is April 19th, International Food and Wine Festival and that there is an Independance Day event on July 4th. The events in Avalon are if anything bigger and better than the similar ones held in Celebration so worth noting.

We went to Lake Sumter Landings today following Geoff & Glenda's recommendation. We had a lovely afternoon looking around all the shops and spent ages in Barnes & Noble. For anybody else going you probably just need to be aware that it is north of Leesburg - we were just about to give up and turn around thinking we had missed the 466A when we spotted the junction.

Glad you had a nice day Tracy. Yes, that is correct, North of Leesburg and then continue on the US27 to Lady Lake. I must admit, we missed it first time and found ourselves in Spanish Springs and only found Lake Sumter Landings by accident on the way back.
