The Peoples Millions

You may be aware that ITV and the National Lottery are about to give away the largest amount of money ever given away on television.

One of four projects will win a public vote at the end of this weekend and receive £50 million. I’m writing this to ask for your help in voting for the project I believe will have a great significance for our future and that of our children.

The Eden Project in Cornwall is one of the only remaining Lottery Landmark Projects that not only still exists but is successful. When Eden first opened, visitor numbers exceeded all expectations. With a potent mix of art, science, performance and technology it highlights human dependence on the natural world and plants in particular. Although likened to a green theme park, Eden as a charity has hidden depths. Education and science are at its heart, not just in the U.K but through highly successful International partnerships. The Education dept was unable to accommodate all the schools from around the country that wanted to come. Because of this the decision was made to build The Core, an amazing education facility, before the third and final biome, The Edge. The Core was opened by Her Majesty The Queen last June. Now it’s time for The Edge to be built but The Core took all the funding.

The Edge, will showcase the world’s dry tropic regions. These cover a third of the world and hold 25% of the world’s population, who literally live on the edge. Daily survival means coping with extreme weather and an unreliable water supply. Problems predicted to affect more of the worlds population with climate change caused by global warming.

However the environmental message at Eden is not one of doom and gloom, it’s very positive and one of hope. As well as being a beautiful and iconic building, with stunning plants that tell the stories of the regions represented, The Edge will it’s hoped, entertain, provoke, inspire and challenge. Eden looks for solutions and believes that we can learn from each other. Everyone is listened to, because who knows where the next great idea will come from?

All four projects deserve to win but Eden is at a disadvantage because the population of Cornwall is so tiny compared with other regions and their cities. So every vote for Eden will make a big difference. For more info go to www.theedge.org or www.edenproject.com

A synopsis of all the projects is on ITV tomorrow (Friday) at 11pm after the news. You can vote online now, the number for phone voting will be given out tomorrow after the programme.

Fingers crossed and thank you :).

Thanks so much Nikki, if you haven't already visited Eden then I hope you will soon. We joined as founder life members before it opened and we're so glad we did. I volunteer there now, it's such an amazing place with so much positive energy. The work they're doing in the UK and around the world is incredible. I hope more OV members will vote :)

Just a polite reminder that we ask that anyone wanting to make this kind of post check with us first so that we can ok it - otherwise the forums could quickly become full of posts promoting every good cause you can think of. We have nothing against good causes but need to ensure the forums remain on an even keel and on-topic.

We've not been asked in this case as far as I can remember, but are happy to let the post remain [msnsmile].
