[u]Sudan Crowd Call For Teddy Teacher Gillian Gibbons To Be Shot</u>

Thousands of people are marching in Khartoum calling for British teacher Gillian Gibbons to be executed.

The 54-year-old has been jailed for blasphemy in Sudan after naming a teddy bear Mohammed but the crowds say her 15-day sentence is too lenient.

The protesters took to the streets carrying knives and sticks, chanting "shame on the UK" and "kill her by firing squad".

Gillian Gibbons escaped conviction on a more serious charge of inciting hatred, for which she could have faced 40 lashes or six months in prison.

She was expected to serve her term at a women's prison near the capital, Khartoum, before being deported to the UK.

Britain has expressed "in the strongest terms" its concern at the verdict and Foreign Secretary David Miliband summoned the Sudanese ambassador. He also spoke to the Sudanese Acting Foreign Minister.

The Foreign Office said earlier they were seeking "swift resolution of this issue" and maintain Mrs Gibbons is guilty of nothing more than a simple misunderstanding.

During her sentencing, UK consular staff were denied access to the court and riot police surrounded the building while the media were barred from entering.

School director Robert Boulos called the verdict "very fair" adding: "She could have had six months and lashes and a fine and she only got 15 days and deportation."

The school would not appeal against the decision, he added.

Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said he was "appalled" at the decision to convict her.

LONDON (Reuters) - A man has been convicted of racially aggravated harassment after calling a Welsh woman English.

Michael Forsythe was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months, after being found guilty of racially aggravated disorderly behaviour, a court official said.

Forsythe received the sentence at Welshpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was also ordered to pay 200 pounds in prosecution costs.

The former lorry driver, who is originally from Northern Ireland, but lives in Powys, Mid Wales, called Lorna Steele an "English b**ch" during an argument after he collided with her parked vehicle in the Welsh market town of Newport in February.

Forsythe has attacked the prosecution as a waste of time and money, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.

"I find it unbelievable that I've been prosecuted for this," he said. "I've travelled all over Europe as a lorry driver and never had any problems with anybody and now they're officially calling me a racist.

"It's political correctness gone mad."

Personally I would be telling them if she was not in the "British Consulate" by Midnight tonight then our good friends Sydney And Sheldon [msnwink] would be coming to get her!!!

The whole thing is ludicrous and beyond belief to begin with

To many people scared to say what needs to be said so all go about like they are treading on eggshells

The Foreign office should be ashamed of themselves!!!

what makes me mad is we bend over backwards to let every Tom Dick and Harry practice their own customs in our country so as to not upset or offend them. Whatever happened to 'when in Rome do as Rome does'!

What does it say for their intelligence levels if they think a teddy bear could be mistaken for a prophet and why then do they name children Muhammad?

We have some fairly strict muslims live near us and we make sure we avoid them as we are scared of saying the wrong thing and offending them.

Just been reading the paper, we gave £326 million to Sudan in 3 years. And another £115 million set aside for next year.
Can think of better ways to spend the money in this country.

Enjoyed the TV interview. What a waste for the pupils in her school, losing a good teacher which I presume are in short supply in Sudan.
