A couple have been arrested after complaints were received about their internet site:

so when you are looking do ensure you get onto the State Department webpage. It is free to apply to this, but only people from certain countries can apply. Not from GB as we already have enough people applying every year.

About 6 months ago I applied for dv lottery through usais.org, I thought it was an official site, obviously now its not, I sent my application and paid in cash. I recieved an email today from the FTC basically telling me I was scammed and the people who were opperating this company are now in jail. http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2003/11/usaimmigration.htm
I am from the UK and it is not possible to apply for the lottery :(Does anyone think I might have a chance of getting my money back?:(

You might if you paid by credit card as you could approach your credit card company and ask if they can refund you. Other than that, if you paid by cheque, unfortunately it doesn't seem likely. Even if the company has gone into liquidation, although you can register your claim for a refund, in general it's very difficult to get any money.

We too were taken in by this site. Thankfully we paid by credit card and I successfully complained about it being a scam and got a full refund [msnsmile2].

We've since decided we love our house in the UK too much to want to move to Florida (or anywhere else) for the time being [msnsmile]
