Hi:D

Does anyone have a good recommendation for travel insurance for my partner and I as it seems prices we've already been quoted are quite high (£90 for just 2 weeks). We'll probably get an annual policy as we might pop over to Spain in May because we have to wait soooo long until Florida :( (Sep04!!)

Thanks,

Tash :)

We've just bought an M&S annual family worldwide travel policy which cost approx £100 but the cover seems great. We previously used Journeywise but they've recently raised their prices and they're not as competitive, the M&S policy also provided slightly more cover.

We usually get annual travel insurance from The Travel Insurance Agency (www.travelinsurers.com).

But we'll certainly be checking out Ruth's link to see if we can get it cheaper !

mind you there is something that I always consider, An insurance policy no matter what
the cost can only be judged how good it is if you need to use it. I use our one because
we have had to use them once and they were fantastic. Prior to us using them they had been suggested by a few of our friends.

If you are still looking then the following website might help www.fool.co.uk. You can follow the link for insurance and then for travel insurance. I went through the quoting process out of curiosity and it gives a quote from five insurers for annual multi-trip cover for our family ranging from £102.60 to £189.00. The really useful feature, though, is the comparison table of what each one covers for. Even if you don't buy the insurance from them (and I have no business affiliation with the site) it is a useful way of seeing the points to compare policies over.

The other thing to try is to check if you are a member of any organisation or professional body, sometimes they sometimes have affiliations with companies to offer slightly preferential rates. The last policy we got was through my wife's membership in the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

Thank you everyone!

I have scouted about for a few quotes but still not sure who to plump for...anyway we have quite a while to wait:(...and at least we have some excellent tips to go by.

Thanks Chrisj for the Traveller Protection link...it turns out this company are part of the company I work for...so will call them monday
when I'm back at work (ps ABI are Assoc of British Insurers...GISC are similar).

Cheers again

Your more than Welcome

Like everyone else here, we can offer advice and give our own opinions. If any advice any of
us give has helped, then thats great. Im sure all would agree with that

I used Norwich Union Direct at £52 for the two of us - single trip. Excludes baggage and personal possessions which I didn't need to include as I could claim this if needed off my household insurance policy. I have submitted a claim for hospital expenses incurred after I sustained injuries when my bag was snatched and am waiting to hear so hope they keep to their promises. I think this is good value compared with other quotes I got before travelling. Probably the annual insurance is better value especially if you are making more than 1 trip.

Our annual cover also covers any trips in the UK, so if we visit the wifes family we
are covered etc, if we have an odd weekend away we are covered, and if the kids go on
a school trip, they are covered. So for £63 a year I thinks its worth it

Hey There,

I quite agree Chris...an annual policy is most definately the best option. I've run thru a few quotes today and the difference between single and annual cover is only about £30. This would then cover for us for our booze cruise weekends to France...hic! and also our week in Spain.

Will do a bit more ringing around when I get to work tomorrow...

Cheers!

Ok - I understand the family travel insurance, single trip, multi trip etc etc....

Here's the dilemma I have though.

My daughter who is 17 is travelling separately to join us in Florida.

Family cover only applies if under 18's travel with one of the adults.

She cannot get her own insurance as she's under 18!

Anybody know a company or broker who can help?

I've tried all the usual sources with no luck so far.

Thanks
dave

We bought an annual policy with Virgin for £99 which seemed like a good deal. Will check out some of the above companies before renewing though as somw of them seem really good value.

[:I]I've just got my annual insurance through our bank - first direct. They are doing something clled first direct directory and annual worldwide cover for the whole family that's with children was £84 that includes trips in UK for at least 2 nights with pre-booked accommodation. It also covers mobile phone insurance and discounts for days out and restaurants too. So I think really good value. Worth it if you are a customer with them. Karen[:I]

Hi Natasha ,
Don't know who you bank with but LloydsTSB have a couple of current accounts(Gold and Platinum) which give you free annual travel insurance for account holder & spouse(partner?)
providing you keep a certain amount in account to get free banking also. I think one or two other banks/ Building Socs. are now doing accounts on the same lines.

further to my post I've just called this company to find out why I was having difficulty proceeding with the quotation because I had a pre existing medical issue. I explained that I had blood pressure problems around 20 years ago, but now there are no problems. They then advised me that they don't cover blood pressure anyway??!! Do you know if this is a standard exclusion and also where you can find what exclusions apply to each policy?

Mmm, well they can pick what they like to cover or not I'm afraid and there's no telling in advance what they do or don't cover without asking individually.

Try www.kingfisherinsurance.com who do cover this type of thing quite reasonably.

We have just taken out an Annual Family policy with Direct Travel Insurance for £72, and the medical cover was better than some of the other cheaper packages found o the web.

We took out our policy last year via this web site. The people we dealt with were very helpful and we found it to be a competitive quote. Would certainly recommend it.

Try moneysupermarket.com or .co.uk (can't remember which one). They will give you a comprehensive list of all the major insurance companies, their price and what's covered.

Does anyone have any ideas who is best for insurance for golden oldies? My Mum and Dad are both over 70 - soon to be over 75 and still don't want to stop going to Florida. The last company they took out annual insurance with has written to inform them that they will not be able to renew their policy with them.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Good question our annual insurance is due & I have been looking at the options, the boss & I both have declared medical conditions which our current insurer has just declined. So this is what I have found with some help from my friends:

Flight Options have a selection of policies at varying rates, Direct Travel http://www.direct-travel.co.uk/Index.asp provided cover up to 31 days and so would the Post Office http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/home but the best may be especially for longer stays could be AIS Direct Ltd (AIS) http://www.financesearch.co.uk/providers/a/a-i-s.html

Pre existing conditions affect price so always ask for a quote; you will find there are lots out there this is just my short list…

Mum (82) used to be insured with Nationwide but they've stopped doing the over 80s now. She's now insured with Eagle Star Direct and got an annual worldwide insurance for £110.
