We were hoping to go next year so I would have my 40th there. Have just looked at flights with Virgin (we have miles to use) and its over £1000 per adult and we have 2 kids in the adult range. Just no way we can afford it. I feel like crying I'm so disappointed.
Why not look at other airlines, maybe indirect flights.

awww sorry to hear that, can you not afford to wait a bit longer or is it peak season?

I'm going to have a look but reading some of the other posts I don't know whether it will be any better. We knew it would be expensive but I didn't realise it would be that bad.

We flew with MONARCH and this time with MY TRAVEL and both was very good ,
They only fly into SANFORD but we were on time going out and going back ,Worth a try .
It may be a little early yet but try later in the year .

Sammibabe why not tell us what dates you want to travel and from which airport and someone may find some cheaper flights.
Flights for August with Virgin normally come out around £600-£800 per adult not £1000, also late August is normally a bit cheaper too[msnwink]
Sammibabe I have just done a search with Virgin from Gatwick leaving on 31 July returning on the 14 August 2008 and it was £648 per adult[msnsmile2]

It is pretty certain that you will be able to get indirect flights in August for around £600. If you wait until the last couple of weeks in August, they are often cheaper than that.

It's really a bit early to be panicking about flight prices for August 2008. You will definitely get that fare down significantly if you're patient. Just keep your eyes open for sales over the coming months and you'll be fine.

14 Aug seems to have none available now. 30-Jul to 13-Aug is £694.
Spoke to someone today who has booked flights from Humberside to Amsterdam and on to Orlando for around £400 per adult for Easter. I know it isn't August but it is peak.
Try Indirect or maybe charter. They might be able to get it a little cheaper. good luck let us all know how you get on.
OK. Not going to go into too much detail here but I have quite a bit of experience on this one.
If you go in the English school holidays - anytime after 19th July (Scotland & Ireland have different dates) - you will be very lucky to come across fares less than £650. Remember Gordon Brown, our good Scottish friend, added £40 to each long-haul flight in air passenger duty earlier this year and that will inevitably mean higher prices at peak times next year, simply because the airlines CAN fill the planes. You will pay a premium for going Saturday to Saturday and slightly less for going midweek.
If you choose to go LATER in the school hols, ie middle of August onwards, prices tend to come down as it's not as popular because many folks want to get home for exam results / prepare for the new school year / make sure kids are in school at start of term etc.etc.
It's also possible that seeing as we can't predict the future, airlines may NOT be able to fill seats and will therefore drop prices rather than cancel flights. However, with the old "wait & see" scenario, you (a) haven't the satisfaction of having anything booked up and (b) risk not getting what you want (or maybe anything at all) unless it's at an extortionate price.
A direct flight from your nearest airport into Orlando (if that's what you want)will probably be the best but most expensive. There are ways of getting around this but it's all down to how much you're prepared to pay.

Thanks guys for all your help. Sooo, I'm not going to panic yet and will check flight prices a bit later. Virgin were definately coming up at over £1000 when I looked, clicked on the price for all 5 and it totted up to over £5000. Don't spend much more than this for the whole caboodle normally. To be there for my birthday the latest we can go is 18th August as my birthday is 19th. Thanks again

Whilst I agree with the thrust of uour post, I wouldn't be quite so pessimistic about prices even at the earlier part of the holidays.
For the last 5 summer school holidays I have booked(indirect) flights from Manchester to Orlando in late July for my adult kids/friends and never paid more than £600.

You will see Virgin were selling tickets Manchester to Orlando all over July-Aug this year for £344.(Mach 2 went)-and that was after airport tax increased. Obviously this might not happen again but there are usually some deals on one of the airlines nearer the time.
Incidentally Gordon Brown added £20 tax to economy fares(making it £40) earlier this year. He added £40 to premium seats.

Is this on the Virgin web site and if so what dates and is it flying economy?
P.S You can only book up to the 15th August at the moment[msnwink]
you mention miles sammi so it might be worth doing a miles plus money search to get those costs down, you never know you could get a much better price [msnsmile]
