Don't tell my Hubby I told him it was in the high 70s he is not one for the heat and will spend most of his time in Lowes looking around in the cool.

For us residents it's miserable. My AC at home is set to 72°, but the house is at 79°! It just cant keep up! My pool is 90°! You need a cool shower after your swim! I spent all day yesterday sweating! Roll on autumn!

At this moment in Yorkshire it is pouring with rain - where would I like to be, yes, you guessed it Florida.

Is it just a new record for August Paul?

We have guests in at the moment and they did not go out for a day and watch tv and read now we know why as round the parks it nust be unbarable .
Hope the weather stays quiet for storms .
We have rain again at home after 2 hot days and even in the car it was very hot with all windows open ,We have aircon in the car but too expensive to have on all the time in UK oh for american gas prices[msnmad]

My Dad and Stepmum were down from Yorkshire yesterday and they said they couldnt believe the sunshine we've been getting as they've had nothing like the hot days we've been having up there.

Hope some of the Florida rays last till we get over in December though as we don't particularly want it too cold.

As an aside I read (so not sure if it's true) that there are only 2 US states where the temp has never reached 100degrees. Any guesses?

Steph, I would have guessed Alaska would have been one of the states that has never reached 100 degress but according to:

http://ggweather.com/climate/extremes_us.htm

all of the states have reached 100 degrees.

It was 102 in the shade on the 192 when we went shopping on one trip a couple of years back which was why I asked if it was just a record for August?

I would imagine that the 97degrees is a record for that actual 'day'. That is how it shows up on the local forecast Channel 10.

The one I read said that the 2 states were Alaska and Hawaii as apparently the breezes around the island kept it just under but have no idea when it was dated so with global warming it may well have become outdated.

To get an idea about storms check the dew point. The bigger the gap between the temp and the dew point, the less humid it is, and therefore, the less chance of storms. Right now we have a dry area of air over Florida. (dry for Florida that it!) No bad storms for the next few days. Just hot!

Even on the Atlantic coast(where I am at the moment) it is really hot and very little breeze in the mornings/midday; breeze picks up in the afternoon. Certainly the warmest period I have known here.

I believe SDJ is right that 97F is the hottest for that actual day. That is only 5 degrees or so above average - the local weather forcast gives the record high for that day and the record low at night, as well as the average. It is surprising how little the temperature varies either side of average in the summer in Mid Florida - the all time highest ever temperature is lower than that in UK.

No CDV just the 11th of August, they have daily records. I wouldn't be suprised if it was another record today, its been scorching again. We need some rain to cool the pools down, they don't cool you off much.

I am going golf at 6:30 in the morning, hope its not to hot[msnscared]

Gotcha Paul, I knew it had been hotter in Orlando but know it depends on certian places registering that particular temperature.

Was in Mexico a few years back when it was 140 and it was an effort to go outside:D

Would that be Fahrenheit or Centigrade:)

You should enter that in the Guinness Book of records as that comfortably exceeds the hottest day ever recorded in the World –ever.
