View Full Version : Locking of Luggage
I have seen somewhere that when travelling to Florida I have to leave my cases un-locked.Is this correct?

You can choose to lock them if you wish.
Its more on the return flights that customs can and sometimes will cut off any padlocks to search your cases.
We don't bother with locks anymore as we have lost so many. We now use cable ties through the zips.

You can use TSA approved locks which can be bought now at most luggage shops and at the airport. We recommend buying all metal ones. Ours had a plastic covering and only survived one trip.
You do run the risk if the case is unlocked they may forget to put the lock back on.
We have combination locks built into our cases and no longer lock them when travelling in either direction. Several times I've found a U.S customs slip in my case when I've got home saying they've searched my bag [V] Had it not been unlocked I would have had to buy a new case :(

We have had a customs slip as well ,We do not mind them going through our cases as some things must look a little like a terror rist so we only think they are looking after us .We have put locks on just after 9/11 and they have cut them off so never use them now .

I don't lock the cases and have had slips from Customs inside the luggage to say it has been checked.

i used tie wraps and painted them with bright nail varnish so if they had been tampered with and no customs slip then i'd have known

You can buy the travel locks at Asda that are suitable for USA customs, they are quite cheap too.
