After doing the safari ride a few times at MK i have my doubts A couple of animals (expecially the larger and more dangerous) seem to do the same movements as we pass them. The question is are there any fake ones if so can anybody name them? I dont want to ask the children for obvious reasons, but need to settle argument many thanks

I thought they were all real on the safari? Am I just incredibly gullible? [msnembarrased]

the baby elephant in the truck at the end is fake as are the termite mounds but as far as i know the rest are real

the animals are fenced into various enclosures but the tecnology they use to do this makes the barriers invisible, we have some great animal photos and the seem very real to me

The baobab trees are also fake, but I have never thought the animals were, each time we have been they seem to have been moving naturally, but I would love to know for sure!

The animals are real. Only the things already mentioned like the termite bounds, Baby Red and the baobab tree are fake.
The animals all go in at night and can be viewed in Backstage tours in their indoor comopartments. If you cathch the little train to conservation station, you can see the pens and the runs leading the animals to them.

The other thing that is interesting to note is the feeding stations, some of the hollowed out or half tree trunks lying on the ground are actually animal feeders. They are easier to see looking backwards from the ride vehicles. There are also some very clever ways that the scenery is manages so that you don't realise that the animals are segregated and also well separated from the tour vehicles. Apart from the elephant in the truck, though, most of the animals are real.

Having done the Safari at AK this morning, I also was asking this question. My only doubts were the hippos, which seemed to move right on cue as our truck pulled away, and most of all the lion which looked TOO much like Simba!! I was also dubious of the apparent lack of fencing separating the lion from truck-loads of tasty humans!

I have examined my photo of the lion and he does look absolutely real, but just too perfect, if that makes sense.

If anyone knows, you can tell me, I'll keep the secret safe.

The animals are definitely real, have been behind the scenes with a member of staff who was a neighbor.

All the animals are absolutely real. We have been on this ride a number of times in the past 8 years and have always seen them different. I also get email updates on the births of few of the animals. The last time we were on the ride last week, there was a rhino standing still then another rhino came up behind him a little too fast for his liking and started to run. Well his runs was a lot like a charge at the end of our vehicle, even the driver got a bit of a shock

We got held up for half hour when a giraffe managed to get on the path and was not moving instead it was eating leaves from the back of a truck and they could not move it.

That happened to us last year it was great for getting some close up photos.

We were told that the Lion always sits on that rock because it has air con blowing through it which keeps him cool, but i am gullable so could be a wind up. [msnembarrased]

I do love this ride with all the animals.

We also had an ostrich which came right up to us, and it was a bit scary! They are so big! We just had to sit still and hope it wouldn't poke its beak inside our truck. Thankfully it moved on and we were able to continue our safari.

I heard a rumour that it is the park guests that are fake and the animals are real ... don't know if there's any truth in it, though![msnsmile2]

I have seen the lion in the picture get off the rock and go walking. Must be a big key to wind him up if he is a fake!![msnwink]

I have been behind the scenes at AK and the Lions are real. They usually hang out by some rocks which are cooled, the idea being to stop them hiding away.

I think that Disney is a victim of their own success here! They are so successful in portraying scenes etc., that when they have a "real" show/park, that nobody believes it!

When we first visited Animal Kingdom in 2004 we thought that the animals were animatronics, but we have been a a couple of times since, and I now believe that all the animals are real.

Although, I could be convinced......[msnwink]

Tell you what, though, I once was on Dinosaur and because we had done a child swap and it was before the fastpass one, where you just duck in the door at the back of the store, I ended up going down the ramp between the pre-show bits exiting.

So, I was the only one there and they asked if I wanted to ride alone or wait for the next group. "Och, I'll just ride alone", I said. "Okay", said the cast member, "but it is a bit more intense". Pah, I thought, they're all fake anyway.

I have never been so terrified in all my life!!!
