Took a day away from Orlando last year and ventures to the pier at Clearwater. Rented a fishing rod for my son and I with the usual huge hooks and 2 oz sinker. While we were there I talked to a guy that was bringing in spanish mackeral on his own rig. If I remember correcetly he was jerking some sort of medium sized plug, perhaps a floating type plug. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of tackle would be successful from for pier fishing in late June?

Thanks,

Chuck

The simplest all purpose tackle is a 'Pompano rig'

It consists of 2 or 3 hooks and a catch for a sinker.(costs about $1.50 from Wal-mart.

Also in Wal-mart(or any bait tackle shop) buy a pack of frozen shrimp.

You can use a 4 oz sinker for beach(surf) fishing or a couple of lead shot for suspending from a float.

Plugs or lures of every conceivable variety are available by the score; but you need to be lucky to catch anything and it can be tiring.

The best bet is to go into a bait shop near where you intend to fish and ask for advice.
