Hi all
st of all thanks to all for all the help we have got from here as we never been to USA and from here in Malta it's a long way.
Was wondering if BA do a upgrade at a special price at check in as we are booked world traveler, have anybody had any experience with this, was told that if we go to desk and ask for a upgrade before flight you can get a upgrade much much cheaper if they have available.
Thanks
Darren

I have always found the opposite if you ask its expensive. Generally if a a flight is full in economy they will upgrade people for free, starting with single adult travellers first (it helps if you look business like). If you have children forget it as they dont really want children in with the people who are paying premium rates for business seats. I once flew back from signapore and got upgraded to first and we were the only ones in it!! Just so happened we had bumped into the crew in our hotel the night before, that was a great flight!!

Thanks Martin
Was thinking about the world traveler plus they won't book it from here only upgrade to club and it's another £1000 each way already cost me £2700 not bad really for 3 adults and 1 child Malta-Gatwick-Orlando return.

Hi Darren
I fear you will have a lot of hurdles to overcome before this happens to you.
Firstly, as Martin says, the airlines only upgrade for free when economy is overbooked and the chances for a family group are remote. Secondly if you are on a heavily discounted ticket and have not 'status' with the airline, you'll be behind others in the pecking order. The fact that you are prepared to pay will help but it can be very expensive.

We fly frequently with BMI and we all got upgrade to premium last May free of charge. We are members of the BMI frequent flyer program but we were suprised to get upgraded with the kids in tow.
BA nearly always upgrate Executive Card Holders first, if you ask at check in it will be very expensive and as WTP is such a small cabin its unlikely they would have any spare seats on Gatwick - Orlando route[msnwink]

oh well I just hope the seats have a better legroom then European flights hardly ever use BA normally use Alitalia and Air Malta
There is no first class on the Orlando run with BA. I have seen times at check in when they have offered upgrades a bit cheaper but not often. As our son is one of their pilots we have been very lucky with upgrades. Came out on 12th May from Heathrow to Miami and was upgraded to business class - hope it works on the return journey.
I think that the World Traveler on BA is really good. Plenty of room and good TV's etc. I am sure you will have a good flight.
