One year we were in Kissimmee and there was a fire (quite common apparently to the West of Kissimmee), the smoke was in the air although not really thick by the villa, there was a smell in the air. Apparently Disney can sometimes be closed until around lunchtime when the smoke tends to lift and the sun gets through.

Also, when travelling along the Miami road we once drove through horrendous smoke and had great difficulty seeing through the smoke. You are generally not in any danger but take care driving.

Round about this time last year (Feb) the fires were really bad along the 27 and the authorities were seriously considering evacuating Esprit-they were so close.
Apparently a wild boar was racing around the golf course-as it's natural habitat had been destroyed.

Smoke was blowing over towards Lindfields and Sunset Lakes and completely obliterating the sun!

Rather scary. When we went back at Easter and drove down the 27 to pick up the I4 for Tampa you could see all of these charred remains of trees-and healthy new undergrowth springing up in between.

Florida needs these fires to survive-but it gets a bit close for comfort.
