Ok, my kids 5 & 4 are pretty adventurous youngest one more so
and we tend to push them maybe a little too far sometimes to try rides that may not be suitable for them, log flumes smaller coasters etc
often they would probably say no and yet once we get them on without any warning and then off the other end, they enjoy it and want to go again
Now I think they would enjoy splash mountain initially, though possibly not the drop, also big thunder mountain, and even possibly Space mountain, back to the future etc...and some of the log flumes Busch gardens etc
obviously not the real coasters such as Hulk, Kumba, and the likes
which brings me to ask from experience, which rides across the florida theme parks would you not consider suitable for a 5 & 4 year for whatever reason
Hopefully this will give me an excuse not to have to ride some of them myself [xx(]
I would say that any of the rides that they are tall enough to ride will be fine for them. They would obviously not be tall enough to do The Hulk and Kumba etc anyway.

If your children are scared of the dark then I would give Space Mountain a miss....it's a rollercoaster (albeit a mild one) in the dark, but if they get frightened you will be sitting one in front of the other (3 in a car) so can't hold their hand etc to comfort them.

From my 1st memory of Space Mountain going back to when I was around 14 cant say I rememeber it being mild
although having rode it again since probably last time around 35 then yes certainly seemed less severe as I got older
guess a lot of the fear comes with the original unknowing / anticipation
also I guess the people that design these rides and put restrictions in place tend to know what they are doing
Height restictions apply on all rides so as long as they are tall enough they should be OK apart from the coasters that turn them upside down and I would think twice.
We have taken our grandchildren on Space Mountain since they were tall enough and they love it. Might also give the Mummy a miss in Universal it is quite a ride in the dark and I must say I was scared.....

Mission Space is very intense. They may reach the height limit, but still might not be enjoyable. However, there is a lovely indoor play place at the exit for them , and some computer games too.

We have twins at 4, the eldest one went on Tower of Terror with me in November and LOVED IT!!
The youngest wasn't quite tall enough then but hopefully he will be next month.
As others have said, if they are tall enough and want to try them, let them!

My eldest daughter was much more adventurous when she was younger than she is now, at almost 11 I still can't get her on Rock and Roller Coaster. When we first went to Florida Caitlin was just 5 and she went on almost everything she was tall enough for.

Our daughter - who was 6 at the time - went on the Skycoaster at Old Town, Slingshot and Skyventure on I-Drive, Jurassic Park at Universal IOA and also the water ride at Sea World. She not only enjoyed them but was the one pushing me to go on them with her. At the end of the day if they are brave enough and big enough then let them go for it.

[/quote]Since May last year, Disney has been offering a less intense version of Mission: SPACE (called Green Team, also known as Half-Throttle), where the centrifuge does not spin. If your children reach the height limit they would most certainly enjoy this ride. When we last went on Mission: SPACE the wait line was longer for the non-spinning version than the spinning one!![msnsmile2]
This is so dependant on the child isn't it. I have nieces of 17 and 9.
The 9 year old cries that she doesn't want to go on 'big rides' but then laughs all the way through! People must think we are really mean 'making' her go on but it happens every time - it's just the anticipation that gets to her. The 17 year old is up for anything - when she is in the line - the minute she gets to the top of the hill on some rides (like big thunder mountain!), she bursts into tears!! But she loves rock and roller coaster.
My sister and brother in law are both scared of heights so I get to be the one who takes them on the big rides - particularly my nephew who is 13 and LOVES all rides, the scarier, the better!
I think it is just personal preference as well as height ............... and trial and error!
Our friends took their 6 + 9 year old out a couple of weeks ago. The 6 year is rather small so he didn't get to go on the big roller coasters which was fine by him. Of all the other rides the only one in which he had problems was the posedin adventure in Universal's island of adventure. But T3 the ride he was fine.

Go on all the rides that they are allowed. They will love it.

I would reiterate that if they are big enough let them do it - particularly if they want to. The only one I would have any reservations about is Mission:Space. My youngest (6 at the time) wanted to go on the intense version until we were outside the 'shuttle' just about to get on. She had loved all the rides she had been on So we went on the other one which she loved. Later I went on the intense version with one of my other daughters. I don't normally get any kind of motion sickness but I found the ride very uncomfortable and felt sick for about 2 hours after. When they say intense they mean intense!
My first thought on reading the title of this thread was to highlight that "Mission Space" can be a bit much for younger "astronauts". However as stated above there is a less intense version available. My kids find all the rides fun. Even the slightly scary ones make then proud that they did them afterwards. Just have a great holiday! [msnsmile2]

Our son is now 7 and loves all the big rides but not a large fan of the water ones. We let him go on anything which is within his height restriction, he often starts to panic when we get near the end of the queue but LOVES the ride once on.
One of his ultimate favourite rides is The Mummy returns at Universal, we have to go one at least 4-5 times each visit and we may go to this park several times during our stay. Like metioned above he also was 4 the first time he went on Tower Of Terror - it was also his last, didn't like it at all. He also went on Mission Space when 4 and loved it though Dean (my husband) hated it because it made him feel sick and dizzy. My personal feelings are I'd sooner my son ride the tamer version now which wasn't available then.
I think you just need to go with the flow, all children are different - have a fantansic holiday.
I agree - generally if they are tall enough they are old enough and will enjoy. We were put of space mountain initially when our youngest was about 6 because you can't sit next to her - but soon changed our minds and she loved it.

My oldest daughter is 4 in April and has ridden Big Thunder Mountain 3 times now at Paris (she was too small the last time we in Florida) the first time last March when she still 2 years old and loves it.
If they are keen and are tall enough then fine.

My daughter will go on everything but I think you will find the height restrictions will automaticakky prevent the children going on rides that are unsuitable.

At the end of the day it is supposed to be FUN, so pretty much what they want to go on that they are tall enough for should suit them. There are so many rides that why pressure them to go for something they may or may not enjoy?
"hopefully this will give me an excuse not to have to ride some of them myself
p.s. this is no excuse with the parent swap, one parent can ride whilst the other waits with the children who aren't riding or all if none want to ride and the other can swap and not have to queue when they have had their turn.

My kids aged 8 and 4 decide what they want to go on (They have both done splash mountain and Thunder rail road. The would never choose a extreme ride that went upside down. Most of these rides are height restricted in any case.
We said to our girls once they hit the height restriction they really ought to try each ride once so they could be sure whether they wanted to do it again. We never insisted as such but encouraged them to have a go.
Our eldest hit the BIG coaster height 2 years ago, up until then she had said NO WAY, in fact we had thought she was OK for Incredible Hulk in the August but they guy had her checked again after sitting in the seat and she was just a tad short - she was extastic they she didn't have to ride!
Come our next visit just a few months later and with no line at all I said come on lets have a go - the first time had been with Dad and she said OK so long as Mum did it.
We can't get her off the things now - by the end of the holiday she was wanting to go on the front, on the back - her arms up in the air laughing and whooping all the way through the ride.
I have seen her sit next to some great big bloke who has held on for dear life and as we got off he's shook her hand for being so brave.
Our youngest says she can't wait to try them as she's been haning about waiting for us for teh past few years. She's 9 in November and if it runs the same she'll be big enough during our Christmas visit.
I think we'll have more bother getting her on than anything!
Have a wonderful time.
