Hi

My family Husband, wife, son and partner both over 25 and son aged 22 want to hire 2 cars when we go to Florida at the end of this year for two weeks. We want a 4x4 that can take all of us together and have all of us as drivers and then hire a small car so we can split up into two groups. Bearing in mind that one son is under 25 what is the best way to go about doing this? We would be prepared to put our younger son as a driver for just a week to make it cheaper but not sure if this is possible.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Audrey

Most car hire companies charge a heavy excess for drivers under the age of 25, however, if you look at the link above, (US Car Hire)you will see that U-Save do not charge extra for a driver under the age of 25. Our daughter of 22 booked her car with them at Christmas and it was excellent. If you book your cars from there you will solve your problem.

Hope you have a great time!:)

I don't think under 25's can get insurance (even paying the excess) on 4x4 or any of the 'luxury' type vehicles.

This is what it says on the site, Caroline, but I expect Roger will be able to give a definitive answer. My daughter only booked a small car so can't be sure if you can book a 4 x 4. However, even being able to book a small car would be useful for Audrey, I would think.

* Minimum Age *
Other than the Pick-up track (min age 25), then minimum age for all other cars is 19. Drivers aged 19 or 20 pay a surcharge of approx $20 per day on collection of the car. Drivers age 21 and over are free.

With U-Save on our site http://www.uscarhire.co.uk/u-save-car-rental.aspx, age 21+ can drive the following cars with no surcharge:

Economy
Intermediate
Full Size
PT Cruiser
Convertible
4x4 / SUV
7 Seater

Therefore you will be fine - bear in mind the 4x4 is the 5 seater version (usually the Jeep Grand Cherokee).

WOW That is really good Roger - better not let my daughter see it though[msnwink] She might start getting ideas about taking her friends to our villa without me[msnwink][msncool]
