From 1st April 2007, all Alamo rentals collecting from any California depot will attract 'Tourism Tax' payable in Dollars on collection of the car. This will a fairly small charge of 2.5% of the rental rate for the car, so on booking costing £300, the charge will be approx £8 (converted at the current exchage rate = around $15).

As with any new taxes that arise, this is outside of Alamo's contol (who up until now may have been exempt from the tax) and hopefully at some point in the future will be incorporated in to the pre-paid rates charged by our supplier.

The Tourism tax is imposed by the State on companies with over $1m of sales annually, where at least 8% of those sales are derived from travel and tourism.

The money is then put back in to promoting travel and tourism for the State of California.
