Soory if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if the US has an equivalent of the UK 'Indefinate Leave to Remain'. This doesn't give you full citizenship rights, but does mean you can come and go (and stay) as you please.

Not sure about this one. There used to be a loop hole with the b visas whereby you could overstay your welcome and just pay the fines. I doubt very much if there is anything like that now. Thats why they have the visa waiver. You waive any right to change of status. If you over stay the 3 months then it is an instant 3 year ban, if overstay by 12 months or more it is 10 years.
