I think I have found a home that I am interested in renting, however, I am nervous to do so. How do you know if everything is legit and that those people really do own the home you are paying for?

If it's from one of the above sites it will be very safe, as every home is verified before advertising.
Is it from elswhere?

dont be afraid, if its from this site you will get exactly what it states, if not betteras they add all the time! and the owners are friendly people who are out to help you!

You can have absolute confidence in renting a Villa through one of the Orlando Villas websites.
No owner can advertise on here unless they have proved they own the property by producing documentary evidence.
Owners have invested a lot of time and money in their villas and you will be delighted by the quality of the homes on offer.

The villas on the sites that are above,Are above have to be verifed so you can rest assured that they are private owners and not agents and what you see is what you get as said above and the owners are very proud of their homes .And you can read guests comments .

If you have found it through this site or the sister sites you can relax and know what you see is what you get.
Something else to think about, the owner is trusting you too.

Contact the owners with any questions or worries you have, you will find they are more than happy to put your mind at rest, and I am sure I speak for all the owners on here that the more questions the better, if it puts you at ease.

I can only echo what everyone else has said, but don't be afraid to open up communication with the owner you are thinking of renting from, we love talking about our homes and all things Florida.[msnwink]
Good communication should be able to put your mind at rest:D
As said above all the villas on the three sites above are verified every 6 months this entails forwarding a utility bill with your name and address on to confirm that you own the villa. John and Roger ( run this forum and the three sites above) along with their wives who work hard to maintain a high standard and the owners on the site welcome this. I remember renting my first villa over 10 years ago and was very worried as I was not on the Internet and did everything via a phone call, Can I suggest that you email the owner or telephone them to have a chat and voice your concerns? Everybody who advertises on the three sites works hard to ensure a high standard for their guests and would welcome contact from you.

I would agree with Liz's comments, open up communication with the owner who's villa you like. I am sure you will find they can put your mind at rest. As CDV has pointed out, as owners we have to trust renters with our lovely homes too, so we do understand. I am sure you will be very pleased, which ever home you choose.
again I agree with all the other owners above. We all have to validate our villas with the website administrators every 6 months. Owners on these sites are very helpful.
I would go ahead and make your booking and open up a line of communication.

Rroo, if you choose a villa from a website connected with this forum you will not be disappointed, it is in our interest as owners to help our prospective guests as much as possible to ensure everything is smooth for their vacation. We are all checked out and validated as mentioned every six months. So look, book, enjoy and most of all, go and have fun.

We are all verified and we are also very excited about our homes. I know I enjoy when someone calls and ask's me a bunch of questions. It's my pleasure to find someone I can talk to about our home ... that I am not going to bore to death... like I do my friends who probably wish sometimes I would not babble about our home. LOL
I know you will have a great vacation in Florida! Enjoy!!! You will have to give us a trip report on how your vacation was!

all this talk of helping people with their holidays i love it, its lovely that people who are booking holidays come on for advice i just wish i could get our villa on this site, i am on a waiting list but i think its going to be a looong time before i actually get on the site its so good nobody leaves i will just have to hope they open a few more places and i might be lucky pat

You will be very safe with the homes listed on this site, and especially with owners you meet on the forum who you will find very helpful and willing to advice you on anything and everything!
Get into a dialogue with the owner of he villa you choose - I always say to my guests no question is too small - because it is a huge first step to book a holiday independently and you will want to ask lots of questions.

You are safe to rent from those three sites. They are lots of nice owners here.
You can rent with confidence from anyone adverysing on these 3 sites. If you are worried write and ask your questions or give the owner a call. They will I am sure be able to put your mind at rest.
i'm not a villa owner and i've got to say that i was nervous too the first time i booked
we had a lovely holiday and the villas linked to this site where the only place we looked at when we decided to go for the 2nd time
speaking from a renters perspective i would say that the owners on here are friendly, professional and cannot do enough to make sure you have a happy holiday [msnsmile]
now i would never go back to a travel agent
