Favourite Supermarket in Florida

We are always amazed at how many things you can get in the supermarkets in Florida compared to home.

You can spend hours there without even noticing the time!

Which one do you prefer?

I voted Publix as it is bright, well laid out and good produce. That's for grocery shopping though. It's always lovely and quiet and no queues at the tills (when we have been anyway!). Even on Christas Eve we sailed through the checkouts! (the Publix on the 192 at Berry Town Centre).

I love Walmart for non grocery items though!

I agree with Dianne. Walmart is less than a mile for us but if we need something on the way back to the villa, it's Publix for us.

For food we always use Publix but if we want anything else for the villa will visit Walmart.

I voted Walmart as it is so close to us and I seem to go at least once a day!
We don't tend to buy much food when we are in Florida as we eat out for most meals.
It's usually just highly nutritious things like ice cream, cakes, soft drinks and beer!![beer][beer]

Have to say Wal-mart for us as it is only a 5 minute walk from the villa and so convenient.

Oh dear, this is really difficult! For food we love Publix which is just 2 minutes away from us, as they offer a good range of high quality food, good prices and excellent service. We particularly love their deli counter, where you can 'try before you buy.'

But if I want to lose a few hours than it has to be the lovely new Walmart 2 minutes away from us as there is always so much to see. When my daughter and I get in there my husband sometimes thinks we have been abducted, as we simply disappear for hours! Luckily my husband is happy to sit and watch the world go by.

But then there is Target - which is another favourite as I love looking at all their towels and bedding - and I can never resist their lovely fluffy towels which we buy for home as well as our villa.

So now how do I vote?[msnscared][msnoo][msneek]

Super Target for me and then Publix, my love affair with Wal*Mart has dwindled and where I used to spend all day in there I can get round it in a couple of hours.

Don't like Winn Dixie.

We like GOODINGS there is one across the road on the right at the entrance to pleasure island gates on the road 535 the complex is called THE CROSSROADS .Their sandwiches are good and a good selection of wines also a nice deli .

For good quality food it has to be Publix, but Wal Mart is so close to us at SD and sells everything.

i voted wallmart.as its has lots to choose from and normally spend a fortune.its where i got my new camcorder HDD.altho i normally go to publix for bits and bobs as there is one normally closer to you

I like Publix for food and enjoy a trip to Super Target. However I probably end up in Walmart the most as my daughters can find plenty to look at whilst I go off and do my shopping.

I'd never be able to walk to a supermarket though....I always have more than the family can carry! :D :D :D

You must go to Stop n Shop then. I always freeze in the one near us. My daughter works in one and always layers up.

I like Publix for Florida though.

It's got to be Publix for food (frozen key lime pie, scrummy) and Wal-Mart for everything else although we have a big choice as Albertson's (sugar free ice cream, mmmmm, yummy) and Winn Dixie are also nearby.

Albertsons seem to be in ?Osceola?Orange and Publix in Polk?
But personally its Publix for food (although a good browse in the non-food section!) & Walmart for the rest. Its amazing that each Walmart is different. Our experience is that if you see something on a 'strange not local Walmart' then dont think you can pop in the local one to get it later!
Publix Birthday cakes, personalised, are very good and good value.
Their carry to car free service is unparralled?

I voted for back in 2006 but now I like Sweetbay which opened last year. Quality food and very helpful staff.

I agree Denise - I visited Sweetbay for the first time in September and was really impressed the quality was much better than walmart and Publix, it had more of a Waitrose feel to it - I also liked the liquor store at the exit, it's well stocked and much easier than having to visit a separate store.

While in Fl I like Publix but I have not tried the new Target on 192. The best supermarket in the US is Wegmans. It doesn't have one in Fl but I am sure there will be one in the future. If you come up north you'll find one in NY state and PA and NJ

The Walmarts are the best My Wife and I usually take 2 empty luggage with us everyyear 1 inside at the bottom and some clothes at the top. The bargains are really good, and a trip to Pro bass by the orlando mall is another stop for me.

We always go to Publix- the layout is so easy to find your way around (we aren't really skilled navigators when it comes to hugeee supermarkets like they have out there!) and they have an excellent variety of produce which is always really fresh :)

The bakery is one of the best for choice and quality. The Deli, fresh meat and fish counters superior to other supermarkets.!!!
