pool heat

I am going to florida in December and have just had letter come though that the pool heat has increased from £70 per week to £100. We have been told that the reason is domestic fuel has increased by 200%. Does anyone know about this and does this seem to be expensive or not[:O]

I would think that £100 per week is not excessive. Fuel prices have gone up a lot over the past year, and the prices would need to be passed on. However, if you booked your holiday and agreed a price for pool heat, I would have thought that the owner would feel honour bound to stand by that agreement. Perhaps you should get in touch and see if you can come to some arrangement about the increase.

Have agreat holiday, and don't be tempted to cancel the pool heat!!, you'll need it in December:)

£100/week sounds about right for pool heat and energy costs in Orlando have risen a lot recently; so it doesn't sound like you are being over-charged.

I'm figuring that you booked through a travel co and not via this site? I think almost all the owners on here apply the rule that once you've booked the price is fixed and it doesn't change. I dare say you'd get a nicer villa too. [msnsmile2]

Gas and electricity prices in the US have gone through the roof recently so, no, I don't think £100 expensive, I think £70 is cheap.

When you think how much it costs to heat your hot water at home in an insulated house and how many more gallons of water are in a pool (even a small pool will have around 26,000 gallons) outside, then it's comparatively cheap.

I do know that most private home owners don't increase their prices after you've booked.

If your rental home has a pool blanket, then make sure that you use this every time you're not using the pool as it will make sure that the pool is at a good temperature for you when you do want to use it rather than evaporate all the heat out of it if it's not covered.

I think £100 per week is a good price, that is what I am paying next year, it sounded ok to me and I am going in July[:O] But to have a nice warm private pool to get into, well I don't think I could put a price on it[msnsmile]

I also think that £100 is an excellent price, the people you are renting the villa off are obviously not adding any extras onto the price of their pool heating for things like having to replace filters and their pool heater. Good price.

We have just increased our prices for pool heat but all existing bookings will still get the old rate if they have already requested pool heating. Did you book through someone on one of these sites Ida?

What a coincidence. I had just finished working out our pool heating costs for next year and decided to see what the latest posts were on the forum and the first I have read is yours. I checked back to my spreadsheet and our rates for a weeks pool heat will be £112. We also have to pay 12% taxes out of this so the owner is certainly not making any money on it and I think you have been given a good price.

I put mine up this year from £70 to £110 and this just covers the bill. I had one guest who had already paid his deposit with a price of £70 per week quoted. I did not increase the price for this booking as it felt that we had already agreed the £70 price.

I must agree that £100 is not expensive although I do not this it right that they are asking for an extra payment since you have already agreed a price when booking. It is worth giving them a ring you may be able to come to an arangement.

Have to agree that £100 is in no way expensive. I have often wondered how anyone can charge less than £15 per day for pool heat.

I agree with everyone else here, £100 is a decent price, however, do check that the pool has a blanket or else good temps will not be maintained overnight.

Early morning in Dec can be a bit chilly and there is nothing better than pulling back the blanket and seeing the steam rise before you dip into a pool as warm as bathwater[msnwink]

I heard not to use the blanket during summer months as it encourages greenish growth in the pool water
