Evenin' all.
Just wondering what your experience is of taxis.
The 2 of us are honeymooning around the Orlando area and hoped to have a couple of romantic evenings away from the villa, perhaps incorporating a meal and a few glasses of wine.
So...what's the score with taxis - are they easy to get? Do you have to pre-order? Will restaurants phone one for you? Do they cost a bomb?
I'd be grateful for any advice on this.
Thanks
Del.
P.S. Any tips on places to go to eat or have a few beers also welcome.
Hi Del,
Am not sure of the costs, but it is best to pre-order them, and restaurants will certainly call them for you.

We used the Yellow Taxis in Orlando. You will see them around for the telephone number which is on the side of the car. We call and pre order them and they arrive bang on time. Never had problem getting hold of one.
We have also got the restaurants to call for one for us.

We have used taxis from time to time - but have alway prebooked. There are several taxi firms to choose from and there may well be details in your villa of local firms.

When i was in orlando last year we were out for our dinner on international drive at race rock. Dinner was lovely but after me and my boyfriend felt very ill.
We wanted to get back to our hotel quickly, rather than walking we hopped in a yellow cab. The driver told us he couldnt take us and to get in the cab behind. So we did [msnembarrased]I realise now we were stupid to do so but we were so out of it cos we were ill, and didnt think twice. When we got to our hotel she tried to charge us $14 for the ride[msnoo].
I know for a fact that the ride didnt cost that much. She was quite defensive when i challenged her. I ended up giving her £10 and told her she wasnt getting anymore. Even $10 was generous but we just wanted to get out the cab.
So please be careful and dont do what i done. There seen to be quite few rogue taxi drivers in the I drive area, so just be very careful!

We always try and agree upon a price before we get in or order one, even in the UK.
Sorry to hear about your experience Laalaa
Yellow taxis dominate the area. The only problem is most of the time you can't pick up the phone and order one immediately. Whenever I've had to order one in a hurry I've always had a 45 minute wait. So yes prebook. Most of them are fairly honest. I've had a few rogues who've tried to fleece me of a few extra dollars and some of the drivers best trick is to ask for say a $10 fare and then when you might give them $20 and expect change they just say thanks very much and just sit there. If you're embarrassed to wait or ask for change, then that $10 ride just cost you $20. Beware of the taxi drivers lined up outside the airport as well. Most of them seem bogus to me.
For a few beers (and sport) try Beef O' Brady's. There's one on H27 and a couple along the 192. (www.beefobradys.com)

What about Kissimmee area - does anyone know of taxis from there?
We will be right at the far end of 192 opposite Osceola Heritage Park.
