We went down to Macdill air base in Tampa last April - the third of our avionic days out. Boy was it hot, it was scorching. The queue to get in was a bit of nightmare so we decided not to stay until the end as we thought we'd never get out. Didn't get to see the Blue Angels do their aerobatic display but did see them fly in.
We spent forever wandering around and around trying to find this F-22 Raptor that was supposed to be on display but couldn't find it anywhere. We did happen across a stealth fighter and what a let down that was. I was expecting something much largewr and grander.
I tried tooking up the web address from last years mag to see what days it was on this year but the page does not exist. I wonder if this year's fest has been cancelled what with September 11 and Macdill being THE airfield for comings and goings in Afghanistan. Shame, but then it was nowhere near as big as Fairford, which I see is thankfully back there this year.
One year I'm going to get to Oshkosh. Antone out there been there yet?
