Just been informed to day that the 'Back to the future' ride will close at the end of this summer and be replaced with a new attraction favorites so far a new 'Transformers' ride or 'The Simpsons'.
Must admit this ride is well past its sell by date especially with all the new technology, but i'll still miss my ride in that Delorian (sp)

Oh my god - a Simpsons ride. My son would probably wet himself if he knew this was a possibilty.
I must say that when we went on the BTTF ride it wasn't a patch on some of the newer ones. It seemd very jerky and dated.
And what with all this extra money they are making on the fast pass system they have plenty to spend on something new.

Back to the future has been there for years so it's good that they are thinking of something newer. Simpsons is popular with all age groups, so I am sure the new ride will be a big hit!!

If its not a Rollercoster I could live with it...I'm fed up of those things popping up all over the parks..I'd go to 6 flags if I wanted the funfair...

Here's hoping that if they do a Simpsons ride they have the characters to go with it. A picture with Homer would look good in the album.

This ride is old and its about time it was replaced, although we love it and will miss it. It's good that they keep updating the rides, otherwise guests would not keep going back.

We went on the this ride in May and perhaps they should rename it back to the 80's. The ride has been around for many years now and is very dated. It was a good ride in its time but technology has moved on and perhaps it is about time to say goodbye.

I'll be honest and say that this ride was the only one we avoided-the movement was jerky and on the occasions we went on it we came of feeling battered-a bit extreme I know -but it's no great loss-will they keep the car on display outside though?

I hated this ride as well, very jerky, and my motion sickness left me a bit battered. Glad they will be replacing it, but I do hope they put a totally different ride in now, and not like Disney did with Stich ride and just rename it from Alien Attack to stich and left everything the same[msnmad]

Have always felt sick after this ride, avoided it last time and let my son go on his own, so a noew ride for me would be good. Its the simulator rides that make me feel sick so I wonder waht it will be?

My youngest would love to see a Simpsons ride in its place, we joke he could go on Mastermind with his specialist subject being "The Simpsons". For Christmas his Aunt bought him a "So you think you know the Simpsons" quiz book and he knew 99% of the answers.[msneek][msnoo][msnsmile2]

What ever will end up there its gone to be a simulator type ride, Universal are pretty keen to get the Simpson theme on board as they were turned down by Fox ( who own the rights) when they opened IOA as they wanted to dedicate one of the islands to them, but now they have stopped making the TV series and a film is to be releashed next year so a Simpson ride would tie in nice, talk was it is going to be something to do with Otto's schoolbus

Just recieved some news its definatly going to be the Simpsons but everyone is still keeping their cards close to their chests

I can't say that I am going to miss it very much.

Every time I came off it my head would be thumping from where it got bashed against the inside of the car (when you sit at the back)

Hope they make the next simulator ride a but smoother[msnwink]

The reaction in my house was similar to when I announced King Kong was going (although we all love the Mummy which replaced King Kong) - deep horror and shock. We love new rides - but enjoy all the old favourites too.

I know it's only a simulator - but it makes me feel sick!

Still sad to see it go though.

Would rather they replaced Twister and kept this one.

It's OK Sally:) My daughter and Sarah's son are keen followers of WWE wrestling, ok for a 14 year old boy, not so sure about a 13 year old girl though[msnoo] So Sarah is just suggesting that my daughter would be happy with a WWE themed ride as a replacement for BF[msnwink]

Used to love this ride but think it's past it's best now so probably needs replacing. Funnily enough, we were watching the film "Back to the Future" last night on sky. I'm all in favour of a Simpsons ride though, I think it would go down a storm with most young people. [clap]

Hi

We went on this ride Friday 29th September and they shut it that night for retirement and thank god it was a horrible ride we all came of feeling sick:D, i spoke to a guy who works there and they are having a simpsons ride for next summer, i just wish we had gone to Universal the day after[laugh].

I can confirm that it has not "shut for retirement" as of OCT 4th 2006,as i was on the ride.IMO they should shut down the ride for refurb, use all new technology thats available and make another new story for the ride.Keeps all the BTTF fans happy and also gives people a new ride.

We went on BTTF a lot of times this week it was not closed on Monday...it only needs updating...the Mummy is a flop...Jaws has more riders..sorry to say but the old rides are still the best...new rides are just about speed and have no thought behind them....

What simulator next to Montu?

I think it was a rough ride, but it has memories for me, and I like to visit the old faithfuls :)
However, whatever comes will have to be based around the same machinery etc, I suppose, with an update?

The tiiming for the closing of BTTF seems a bit mean to me. you would have thought that they could leave the closure until Mid April after the large influx of guests that arrive over Easter.
Personally it was a ride that made me very sick, but my son really enjoyed it.

It made me sick too, but not as sick as I am that it is closing 2 weeks before we arrive.[msnsad]

I thought The Mummy was superb myself, an absolutely cracking ride.

BTTF was good, but it is dissapointing when you sit in the front as you can see all of the other cars which reminds you it is far from real.

The only shame with The Mummy was that it replaced King Kong just before the new King Kong film was released which could have been capitalised on.

I agree about Earthquake as well, very dated but interesting for film buffs all the same.

Well we tried to ride on BTTF in Feb, waited in the queue for 15 mins actually got to the reception room just before entering the car, then the door to return to the queue opened and we were told not to get into the car if the door opened. As we have not been on the ride before we thought it was part of the build up, but no the next instruction we got was that the ride had to be evacuated!!

Not to worry we thought we would try again on our next trip, but having read this thread it looks like its not to be, although also after reading the thread i may have had a lucky escape, as i'm not the bravest when it comes to rides.

Pegasus928
15-03-2007, 10:15
I'm not surprised that rides like this one are starting to go. It's old, tired and throws you about more than being in a tumble drier. We have only been on it once and we came off black and blue. When you put this ride next to The Mummy, Hulk, Shrek 4D, Spiderman and even Twister it can't compete.
It will obviously have it's die hard fans who will get all nostalgic and teary eyed when it's time comes, but I'm sure whatever replaces it will be worth the wait.

Went on it last Thursday, the day before it closed, still a great ride, went on it the year it opened, now the year it closed as well. Must be getting old. Had a 40 minute wait, not too bad considering.
What a shame they closed it, the other one I really liked was the King Kong ride, now also gone.
At Disney there used to be a ride (more an Audioanimatronic show really) called the Carousel of Progress, came from the New York World Fair of 1961 and was the last ride there that was actually done by Walt himself they tell me. It went through several changes, during its long life, does anyone remember it? It never stopped, even when loading/unloading passengers.

chrizzy100
03-04-2007, 17:44
Carousel of Progress was still there last time we went to Disney...we don't go much its not one of my fav parks...my daughter loves the ride...
Maybe they are making room for more rollercosters....you'd think seeing as the places are theme parks they would have more imagination and make rides the whole family can injoy...
