Where better to get ideas than here?!!!!!!!!!
My Mum and her sister are looking to travel to the US before we do and see some different cities before meeting us in Orlando. Her sister has never been to the US before. My Mum's favourite area is Boston and Nantucket so they are planning to fly to Boston and take the bus to Hyannis then the boat to Nantucket as she usually does. She was thinking about getting the boat to Marthas Vineyard for a few days and then heading down to New York where her sister has always wanted to go.
Would it be better to go back to cape cod and get train/bus down or get the boat to Long Island then then travel from there?

After New York they are not sure how to get to Orlando. They quite fancy seeing some places in between and I wondered if anyone had any knowledge of this area and could recommend anything. They are willing to fly, get the train or drive.

Any suggestions would be welcome. They have no idea of the distances and times involved - we are just starting to think about it.

You're not going to get a train to anywhere on the Cape...maybe a bus...

I would do a train trip down from New York and stop off at some of the bigger cities...you should be able to get on and off the train all the way to Orlando Old Town..
If you drive you'll have trouble parking and the road is boring most of the way...but you can if in no rush with the drive see a few lovely places by leaving the highway...you are not that far from the sea most of the time...

There is a book and web page about driving I-95..it would be worth getting...

The Cape is my Mums favourite place in the world. I have been a couple of times and I think (tied with Florida) it is also my fave place to visit in the US. It is so pretty and the people are so nice!;)

Its very quiet here right now...and very warm..I think the gas prices are keeping people from driving far from home...in nearly 7 years I've never seen it like this in July...

Last year flying from New York to Orlando one was was just under $100, from Boston to Orlando on Delta was $63.

My daughter will be going back to Marthas VIneyard again in the summer, visiting after having worked there last year, and I wish I was going with her, it's such a beautiful place. She has booked internal flight from Boston to Orlando for end of August a couple of days ago for $70 with South West.

The only thing we found when we went was that by the time the flight got in, it was too late to get a bus to go to Hyannis so had to get a car which was around $130 with tip otherwise we would have missed the last ferry, so it's worth maybe looking at stopping in Boston for the night and getting the bus and ferry in the morning.

This was to Marthas VIneyard but Nantucket looked about the same.

When she went last year the Bonanza bus (does have a website) was around $29 from New York up to Hyannnis.
