Hi all,
Just a quick question. In America do they have the same chip and pin system as the UK, or can you still sign when using a card.
Thank you for any help!!
Katy
Yes Katy, they do use the chip & pin in the US. They were doing it this way before us:)
Whilst they do use it, you will find that you still sign the bulk of the time.

I found in June that most shops were chip and pin for debit cards and sign for credit cards, don't know why

I was out in June and some outlet's were chip and pin and some i had to sign.

Like everyone says, you tend to have to do both. Some places will ask for signature others, your number.

Chip and pin for debit cards, sign for credit cards.
Biggest problem with credit cards is that gas (petrol) stations increasingly need a zip code (post code) entered in on a key pad. Only way round this is either to pay in advance in the shop or pay cash, or debit card.
