We have compromised and the kids are going to miss the first four days of the school year.

Call us bad parents but given the crazy prices during school holidays I am happy that this was the right thing to do.

BTW This quote is still comming up this morning (!) and is a good compromise for people who want to minimise school term disruptions:

I worked in Education for a number of years but I'm still taking my son out of school for a florida holiday. My reasons for this are that I think my children who have special educational needs benefit this time together as a family. A lot of our time at home is spent at the hospital and having surgical procedures etc. During the summer months I'll be recovering from surgery and unable to fly and looking forward to our holiday in November will give me something positive to focus on.[msnwink]

Our Son will be a day late, we land at 6.30 in the morning on the first day of the new term. To come back a day earlier was over £100 each more.[msnmad]

We benefit (if that is the correct way to think about it) from our schools 'in service' days as our children are not expected back until 6th September.

I'm extremely pleased too. Just got 3 flights from BA, Gatwick to Orlando.

Two of us going for 16 nights from November 27, and one for 7 nights from December 2 (Saturday to Saturday, so more expensive). GB£648 the lot. Now I know that I'll definitely be there to put up the Christmas decorations.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

See you Stateside, Janny.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

I'll see you there!, I'm taking my two youngest Nov22nd - Dec8th £649 from Gatwick, would have been under £600 but staying an extra couple of days and coming back on a Friday.

Also works on domestic flights, saved £30 on the Newcasttle to Gatwick flights as well.

Link was on another forum (non holiday) at the weekend.

We'll have to organise a get-together Jeff and toast BA.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

Everyone round my place for a party as long as it's after December 2nd and before December 9th, so that my husband Kevin can meet everyone too. My daughter (18) and I are the lucky ones who get to go over for 16 nights and he only gets 7 because of work committments.[msnwink][msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

I love a good party.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

Andrew, come out earlier.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

We go home on December 14th. Guests are arriving that day and after them come the Christmas guests and then the New Year guests, so we can't extend our stay.

Am fixing a date now: December 7th. Middle afternoon onwards. Make sure you're on the plane on the 6th Carol. Kevin goes home on the 9th and he'll need the whole of the 8th to recover. He won't want to miss you guys either. [msnwink][msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

Well, as of today I'm not speaking to BA! [msnmad]

As I'm 6'6" with medical problems I rang to ask about medical seating as the 777 only has 7 bulkhead seats in economy, 4 of which are exit seats so no chance of sitting there. I was assured that they would be no problem unless the seating was already asssigned, they then checked and it wasn't so I went ahead and booked, then rang Special Needs to arrange it all as I was told to do.

To cut a long story short they lied to me about medical seat allocation, they no longer do it and haven't for several months!, even after speaking to "special needs" (who gave me incorrect information twice) who said they had confirmed a medical request!. They have now admitted this was completely incorrect as their system no longer does this but will not refund, upgrade or even change 1 name, the only option they give me is to cancel and loose over £350.

I will take it up with my credit card issuer as I have BA on tape admitting their multiple mistakes.

22-07-2006, 18:46
I also had a problem with BA and advance seating arrangements so perhaps you should bring http://www.dptac.gov.uk/door-to-door/03/05.htm and http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_mobility/documents/page/dft_mobility_507855.pdf to their attention?
