When I go to the water parks as usual we have camera, video camera, money etc. What do I do to prevent them getting wet? I always seem to be the one minding the bags. Thank God I smoke!

It is worth getting a locker for all your valuables. That way you can relax & enjoy the day:)

Phil

we get over this by buying a couple of disposable waterproof cameras to use on the days we go to the water park or beach and take limited amounts of money which we put in a locker. That way nobody is left bagminding and we have got some great shots using the disposable cameras, the trade off in the quality of the photos is worth it to make sure everyone is included.

You can get lockers in 2 sizes. We generally manage to get our stuff into a small one (the large lockers seem to have been built with the idea of accommodating small children !)

The single use waterproof cameras aren't too bad....we've had some good pictures on the lazy river and on some of the slides.....and they fit into your pocket (if you wear shorts).

We discovered waterproof cameras last time we went(unfortunately after our friend tok his digital camera on a rapid ride!) and found the quality of the pictures was not bad at all. Back at the villa we went under the water, kids jumped in and we snapped them - kids thought they were great fun.

Waterproof disposables are also great at the beach, where the sand always seems to get in every crevice!

I do find that the cameras work really well in sunny/bright conditions, but can be a bit dull if it's overcast, but it's better than risking your expensive items.

Places like Boots the Chemist offer lots of travel accessories, especially this time of year. I bought a money holder that you wear around your neck, just like the ones you buy for kids. It's tube shaped and you put in a bit of money, locker keys etc. That way you don't keep having to trapse your way back to the locker every time you want a drink!

So that's what the big lockers are for - but instead of putting kids in there, can I put the old man in there instead!!!:D

Hi Phil,

Zip-tie freezer bags can be the photographers best friend on water rides. Photo shops like Jessops also sell more specialised pieces of kit. Try searching for 'rainguard' on www.jessops.com if you want to shoot video on the wet rides.

This is probably going to spark controversy ... but ... from my personal experience I've found modern digi's can stand a few splashes (and being dropped a couple of times ... ooops) but not a good dunking. A shirt pocket keeps the worst of the water off if you want to try a few shots. Mine's survived just being held (with wrist strap) too.

If you want to get a bit closer to the water ride action and shoot the worst bits you might also try taping up the camera's battry/CF cover and also it's microphone if it has one.

Love the idea of underwater shots of the kids jumping in the pool using a waterproof disposable. I'm so going to try that next time I'm out.

you could buy an underwater camera so if it gets wet then it doesn't matter becaus obviously its waterproof.or you could buy a poncho and put i over the bags.[msnwink]

We have used the locker option in the past (but kills off the spontaneous pic moment!)Like the idea of a disposable camera just for the waterparks/beach[msncool]As for the money, my husband now floats round Typhoon with a waterproof Mickey money pouch round his neck, fits money/carkeys/cc...Bless him[msnwink]It's an age thing[:p]

I bought a waterproof camera from E-Bay, it's not disposable, but it has a flash, and a waterproof housing, so it can be taken out and used as an ordinary camera. Was about £30. OK, it's not a great camera, but it takes better pics than the disposable ones, and can be refilled with 35mm film whenever you want! I'm afraid I am paranoid about my camera. I generally use a 35mm SLR, and I throughly enjoy photography, but I would never take my camera to a waterpark!! As I tend to carry around mammoth amount of kit, I am thinking of getting a Canon G5 for this years holiday - has anyone got any experience with them? [?] :D

We bought a pack of two waterproof disposable cameras from Walmart in October to use at Discovery Cove and from memory the cost was less than $20 for the two - and the photos were much better quality and colour than I was expecting.

we have used the lockers at the waterparks and never had a problem. Love the idea of giving the kids a disposable amera to use! We put one on every table at our wedding fro guests to take pictures during the day and as frar as 'snaps' go they were great, so well worth buying!

If you want even cheaper ones for the kids, our Poundland has had some for quite a while, a couple of years ago they had some of the waterproof ones as well which were great for the water parks and we got some quite good pics with them.

One tip if you are giving them to the children is to write the surname and either mobile or home phone no or e-mail address on the camera in permanent marker (we always used to do this for school trips for our daughter) then if they put the camera down and forget it, then you can be contacted and arrangements made to forward it. If none of the pictures have been taken, it doesn't matter if you lose it but if the camera has been almost fully or totally used then many people realise that they may be irreplaceable pics and try and contact you.

Also a handy idea for expensive toddlers shoes as well if they have a habit of kicking them off.
