Our local schools are Mon 28 May - Fri 1 June 2007.

Does your school not have a website - if they do it should be listed or just give them a call.

That's a hard one Karen. I would say it depends on the age of your child as to how much missing a week would affect him and the school's policy about taking children out of school!

Our schools holiday for next year is also 28th May - 1st June.

thanks all, our dates are the same. possibly the chance of an inset day as well, if thats the case my son will miss 4 days of school he will be 8.
Thats why we arnt going this year because of his SATS.

waiting for the school to phone me back to see what the heads view is.
last May took my son out for 3 weeks but his reading came on so well he learnt to read a map, he learnt about money, talked to people from other countries and none of his time out affected his school work at all. If anything it improved as did his concentration.

i will wait and see what the Head says when he phones (my son is moving from the infants to the juniors in September and they are run as two separate schools)
i will also beable to check on the dates.

i think we might end up going in Aug 2007. we are going with friends and they have to find out about taking their son out of senior school. ( its just so expensive in the Aug hols).

do you know Liesa i was in town saturday and saw 2 weeks hotel, flying from Gatwick, car etc for Jan £1600 for 2 adults and 2 children.

Had a quote for the same holiday today for Aug and it was £3100 WHY?[msnsad].

i think i might have to do some more hours at work of we will just have to live on beans on toast[msnwink].

Karen

have you checked with your local education authority, most schools allow 10 days absence (per school year) for your child if you are having a family holiday
not all people can take holidays when they feel like it so a lot of the education authorites now have this policy

i always use my 10 days holiday allowance but i also find out what the child is studying and ask the teacher if there is any particular project that the child could maybe build into and have fun doing whilst he is on holiday

last year my son was studing the effects the weather has on the planet and we mapped temperatures whilst in florida and took photos of the sky, the torrential rain and the sunset we looked online and found local newspaper articles about the hurricanes which we printed off and added to his project, he had lots of fun doing this, it only took a small amount of time each day and he couldn't wait to get back to share his project with his teacher and the rest of the class

i think the schools look a lot more favourably if you show that despite taking your child out of school you still intend for him to learn whilst he is on holiday
it's always worked for us[msnwink]

good luck

mizzy,

we are allowed 10 days only if the head allows it is down to the individual school.

up until this year i have taken my son out of school (he is 7)but he has always gone back with an excellent s[bad language filtered out]book/project book completed, present for the teacher and a huge bag of sweets for the class.

we made the decision not to take him out this year because of his SATS in May.

The problem is the move to the junior school and just finding out their policies.

Holiday companies just bring your prices down.[msnwink].
