I'm looking at renting a villa end of 2007, and have been told I will need to pay a 25% deposit now, plus the bond. Is that normal, it seems like a lot of money upfront now to hold it, when we don't travel for ages.

Hi Jellybaby,

All villa owners have their own way of doing things but most have a set amount per week booked, we are $250 or £150. Our security bond is only added with the final balance.

If you look at the villa adverts on the above 3 sites they should have their own booking details on.

Good luck with your search:)

Most owners will have different terms and conditions with regard to deposits and security bonds although the security bond is usually only payable with the final balance. Check out the villas listed on the links above and most of the information will be there for you to see.

we have paid between £150 - £200 for deposits, then the balance around 10 weeks before we go, its not a lot really to hold the villa for your dates

We ask for a deposit of US$250/GBP150 per week booked, the same as Lynne but different villa owners have different ways of doing it.[msnsmile]

We ask for £200 per week booked with balance due 10 weeks before which would include the refundable security deposit of £200.

We ask for $250 with the balance due 8 weeks before arrival. Security is also due with the final balance. But each owner sets their own policy. Are you booking directly with an owner, or are you going through a travel agent or a website that negotiates everything for you? I have had my house booked through certain websites that collect the money for me and they request 25% up front.

I take a 20% Deposit on total, a further 40% at 12 weeks and final 40% at 8 weeks before stay. Although I like to work with Guests what suits them best. Often if there is a year or so before holiday I will take a 5% deposit on booking, a further 15% 6 months later so that I hold 20% followed by two payments of 40% at 12 and 8 weeks, but as I said will work with what suits Guests but as everyone says each Villa Owner is different.

I ask for $175/£100 per week booked to hold the dates. I request final balanve 10 weeks prior to your holiday along with a $350/£200 REFUNDABLE SECURITY DEPOSIT.
I can't see why anyone would need the refundable security deposit on booking.

Like others have said if you find a villa you like on here there is plenty of time to check out its terms and conditions.

I ask £200/$350 for booking, of 2 weeks may increase that slightly mind you. SEcurity bond would be added at final balance time for us too.

I agree, all owners have different terms and conditions of payment. I ask for a £100 or $160 deposit for 1 week and this is doubled to £200 or $320 for bookings 2 weeks or more. Final payment is due 8 weeks prior to arrival date along with security bond of $300

I am the same as most £100/$175 per week and the security bond of £150/$250 with the balance 10 weeks before departure.

I am also the same as yje rest. It is unusual to pay the security bond with the deposit.
