I dont think American dumplings are the same as our English dumplings somehow! Hubby ordered them and no resemblence. That was from Cracker Barrel, although we have had a few nice meals there.

I like going to Cracker Barrel. Their breakfast is one of my favourites. I wouldn't choose to go for dinner though.

My least favourite is Ponderosa, although it offers excellent value if you have a lot of youngsters to fill. I went once, because it seemed so popular but never again for me..

I have so many favourites but I think Jiko's and Le Cellier for dinner and Cheesecake or Bahama Breeze if I wanted a late lunch and wasn't eating in the evening.
I find it difficult to choose a favourite because there are so many great places to eat.

Can't say we have had a bad meal in Florida maybe we have been lucky.

Think the bottom of our list for restaurants for us is TGI Fridays, but you can't beat their pint of Coors Light, Fantastic

Phil

We had a really bad experience at the Black Angus...(on 192) terrible service, lenght of time waiting for your meal to come (45mins) then the wrong meal, no apologies, and I took one of the kids to the toilet (part of the hotel it is attached to) and it was so disgusting I wouldn;t let my daughter use it, I walked straight out and over to the reception desk to complain, he asked me what I wanted to do about it????[msnmad]
We promptly left at that point, never to return! (In saying that, we may have been really unfortuate as I know they have numerous restuarante around orlando and I can't comment on them, but it has certainly put us off!)

Our favourite is: The Outback in Clermont or Mimis, the Mall at Millenia

Our least favourite: The black Angus or Sizzlers

john , the boma, is that the sit down restaurant as you walk down the stairs to the pool area? wwere you ataying there at the time?

we have been in twice recently on our last days as 'room viewing' guests and eaten in the self service type restaurant by the pool, this was acceptable standard. its one of the disney style ones where you can fill your plate with extras like mushroom , dill pickles tomatoes etc

Best -Ville de at Gaylords; Hue in Central Orlando and Max's at Celebration.
Worst - Well my hubby once had one of those Turkey legs just inside entrance to IOA and had food poisoning for days after, but other than that, we have had some odd meals -ie Crackerbarrel on Fish Friday -"no chips left, but we can do you some potatoes" :D :D:D
The queue of white legs outside the Ponderosa has thankfully always put me off
For reliability -the Outback
For something different in a good way, Seasons 52 on Sandlake, or Christini's

Worst: Romano's Macaroni Grill. Quite possibly the worst meal of my life in here. Took ages....Dad complained....waited...Dad complained again!....meals arrived....Mums didnt....when it did it was cold....Dad refused to pay and quite amusingly said he was gonna call the police!....waitress came back and said "have a nice day"....we gave her a good tip and left !!

Worst = Cracker Barrel, TGI Fridays

Like = Olive Garden but is always far too cold inside so I get uncomfortable. They do a wonderful red Lambrusco which you cannot find in many places now.

We have never had a bad meal in florida. We like Rainforest, Planet Hollywood, TJs, Logans, IHOP you name it we like it . We like Ponderosa although it can be a little dirty at times. The last time we went to Sizzlers we wernt that impressed where as in the past we have always enjoyed our meals there.
We love Golden Corral we had lunch and dinner there next time would like to try breakfast.

Golden China is that the one by Quality Inn Hotel we had a lovely takeaway from there, we were staying at The Quality Inn.

Isn't it funny how we all have so many different opinions and experiences.
My family and I really enjoy Cracker Barrell.
We mostly go for breakfast (eggs and ham) but we have had some meals there in the evening and although there are some items on the menu I would steer clear of there are also some good dishes with plenty of veggies which I like.
I don't like Ponderosa, Sizzlers, or Golden Coral.
If we want an evening meal we would go into Celebration or Texas de Brazil

I have enjoyed the food at TGI Fridays, Red Lobster, Bahama Breeze, and many others .

My worst experience , will never go again, was Angels on the 192.

We have been to several Ponderosa's and they are not all alike. We regularly go to the one at the top of Hoagland BLVD, opposite Osceola Square Mall. It is good for a quick meal as you get to eat the salad while waiting for your main meal. Our son likes helping himself too [msnwink]

The worst meal was at Pollo Tropical. We need to get something to eat and we had very little time. Let's just say a MacDonalds would have been better [msnwink]

Houlihan's and Le Cellier at Epcot have been my favourites so far although I did like The Olive Garden.

We used to meet up with our American friends for a breakfast at that Ponderosa but when we went in March we were very disapointed with the quality of the breakfast.
The salad items are put out first thing in the morning so I wouldn't be happy eating them later in the day.

We used to like the Sizzler further down for breakfast and where very disapointed when it closed down. We also used to like StevieB's but when they started working on the widening of the 192 that started to decline and eventually closed down.

We've also found that in our two week stay one week we find somewhere we liked but if we return the following week we're normally disappointed. Good waiting staff can make a difference to how you view a restaurant, getting an indifferent waiter can ruin a good meal. It always amazes me how they can be so sullen whilst serving you but all beams when they present the check with the "have a nice day".

Places we would visit again, Bahima Breeze, Macaroni Grill, Red Lobster and Golden Coral (535) for breakfast

Places we wouldn't, Las Vegas Buffet and the fast food Italian just down from Pollo Tropical (can't remember the name)

I live here, so here's mine:
Best.... Ruth's Chris, La Cellar in Epcot, Buffalo Wild Wings, The French place at Epcot was lovely, but expensive, The Rose & Crown at Epcot (just don't expect dinner like Mum used to make), Peppino's Italian on 434 by UCF, Bahama Breeze on 436, Seasons 52 (totally fantastic) on 436, Kobe's Japaneze Steakhouse.
Worst.... Steak & Shake (Steak Mistake), any buffet chain, CCs Pizza, Johnny Rockets at The Millenium Mall(greasy), The Crazy Buffett on 436,
Special mention for the 50's drive in place at MGM. The food sucked, like bad! And it smelt like vomit!

Worst Ponderosa on I Drive. Wendys, Davenport as hardly anything left on the menu and it was only about 8 o'clock.

One main reason for holidaying in the USA is the food, quality and quantity at reasonable prices!

I am quite a plain eater, really not keen on seafood nor spicy food so Steaks etc suit me!

The must do restaurants for me are always The Cheesecake Factory, Tony Romas and The Olive Garden.

Ive never gone wrong at a TGIs, Ruby Tuesday or Bennigans either and the Chillis at Championsgate last year was good.

This year taking on board tips from this board im looking to forward to trying Mannys, The Kitchen Sink desert at Disney and it seems the Buffet at the Rennaissance as well as some more Ice Cream down at Celebration.

Ponderosa and Sizzler are ok as long as you do not set your expectation levels too high - you get what you pay for!

Worst has to be some Chinese Buffet I went to once on I Drive - though not as bad as another Chinese Buffet in Miami on Sunny Isles which left me and a mate very sick for a few days! Im not sure I fancy ever going back to a Chinese Buffet in the USA ever again! Also had a poor meal at Univeral Studios near the old Back to the Future ride.

The only Cheesecake Factory in Orlando I am aware of is at Mall of Millenia.

There is also one at the International Shopping Mall in Tampa if you are ever down that way near the airport.

The Fillet Mignon is really top grub, only surpassed by the quality and variety of the cheesecakes for pudding! The wife also loves the Calamari.

It is a "chain" but much higher quality than most others and a nice atmosphere. Also you get the buzzers so you can carry on shopping until the table is ready!! (though you cant go to far!)

Best this time was definitely Fulton's Crab House. Service was the best I've experienced in Florida and the king crab claws were perfect. For anyone trying to book, don't book via Disney, contact the restaurant itself (number's on their website). We were offered several times and dates at short notice when Disney said they were booked out.

Second was a place we've always liked the look of but never tried until now. I can't remember the name, but it's more or less opposite Festival Mall and has big gas lamps burning round the outside. Definitely not for vegetarians, it specialises in medium rare/rare steak. (You don't actually get steaks, just lots and lots of slender slices of different cuts of meat). I reckon it is the place to go to convert the "I'll have mine well done" people. Even our 5 yr old was tucking into big slices of blood red beef. Yum. Service was very good too. You turn over a card on your table to let them know you want the next delicacy, and you're immediately surrounded by guys with skewers loaded with really excellent stuff. We had a great game betting on how long it took them to appear when you turned the card over (longest was 33 seconds) and the kids enjoyed sneakily turning over each other's cards and laughing when the victim got mobbed by the servers.

Third was Key W Kools - we really like this place and go at least once every trip. It does huge super strong martinis and Mrs T had to drive home that night. (Her first time driving in Florida, we're all still recovering).

Biggest surprise was IHOP. We haven't been there for years and we were a bit ho-hum about it, but the breakfasts we had there were excellent and have now gone top of the list for the kids breakfast choice, overtaking Perkins, for the reasons below.

Worst this trip was Perkins on the 27. Again, never been in this particular Perkins before, but the one on the 192 has been our favourite for breakfasts for years. Service was lousy, food was yeuch. May have just been an off day as we have always liked every other Perkins we have been to.

Tonish the restaurant you are talking about is Texas De Brazil - it is one of our favourite restaurants[msnsmile2]. We also like Key W Kools and also found chillis on 27 was again very good this trip. We had a very good burger at Five Guys at the new Winter Garden shopping centre. Our favourite place is still the Tiki Bar at Lake Minneola but don't tell everybody it's only small and always busy already! As somebody we were talking to while we were there a few trips ago said Clermont's best kept secret [msnwink]

Tonish we loved Fultons crab house too the server was fab with the kids, we never got the time to re visist in march but it's on must do list for may

we'd also love to try texas de brazil but with a loud mouthed opinionated veggie aka the terrible teen it ain't gonna happen

We like Texas de Brasil too - you don't have to go for the full meat option, there is an option, at half the price, just to go for the salad bar, which is awesome with so many salads choices plus cheeses, cold meats, fish, etc that I think it would satisfy most vegetarians/vegans, although not being one myself, that may require comment from someone who is.

Best: The Butchers Shop/Waffe House
Worst: Homers Pigout BBQ (Cannot remember the specific name) - We expected it to be grubby and this is why we thought we would try it; something really grubby/greasy and a traditional American pigout grease-fest. However, it was nothing compared to what was actually there...flies in chicken, paper; cups, plates, plastic forks. Very horrible.

Homers is no longer open. We had a breakfast there and have to agree it was truly awful[sick]

I used to go there for the pulled pork and it was delicious. Granted rough as you like and you were lucky if the waitresses had teeth and paper cups etc but the BBQ was really tasty.

Applebees on the 27 is not on my favourites list either. 3 times I have been there (with friends) and they haven't impressed me with their food yet. Service is fine though.

We went to MORRISONS it opened about the 14 FEBUARY in the old SIZZERS on the 192 just like a school canteen and food was not good at all, It is the worst meal we have had in FLORIDA ,Cheap but I would rather pay more and go to OLIVE GARDEN or LONGHORN on the 192 the steaks are very good and worth the price .

We've been visiting since 91' some of our faves are
IHOP on the I-Drive nr sandlake road crossing. some of the original staff still serve there 17 years on! we mainly use these for breakfasts............ samplers are just heavenly
Tony Roma's on I-Drive, never had a bad meal, eaten there day and evening and great value!
Charlies Stk House, again I-Drive................awesome, not cheap though. You need a wheel chair to cart you out!
Cheesecake factory _ Mall@Millenia offer an amazing choice...in fact too much though watch out as alot of it is dryfroze processed so not to good if you have food intollerences.
Kobe Steak house, I-Drive is great fun for a family outing.

Worst

Shoney, Ronnie, Sizzler, westernSteak house/outback.

Food I just love the stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fresh fish from Publix is fantastic too. Cooked to perfection on the grill, washed down with a cool glass of wine while you're sat outside by the pool watching the sun go down. My idea of heaven. [party1]. Also the other bonus of course ... no-one draws the short straw for driving home

I have to agree the Seafood counter in Publix is fab, I buy loads of stuff from there incl teh odd lobster, crab, prawns, scallops, tuna etc etc and it is sooooooooo cheap compared to back in the UK.

Hi

Last time we went to our villa we went out for an Indian Curry just to see if the Chicken Tika was the same my 12 year old lover it!!!

We went to the Indian Diner on 192 opposite Medieval times

NEVER AGAIN

Coke was like water service was awful the chicken well I would not like to comment, I was suprised that we didn't go down with something the next day. It is like an all American diner with a couple of Indian pictures and a CD Player.

And they had the cheak to charge us 15% service charge for the worst meal ever. I said at the top of my voice on the way out what a cheak and I would be suprised if they were still in business in August when we next go.

Best Meal was at Charlies in Tampa and I love Gloria Estafans Festurant is it Bongo's.

Thanks Dianne

One main reason for holidaying in the USA is the food, quality and quantity at reasonable prices!

This year taking on board tips from this board im looking to forward to trying Mannys, The Kitchen Sink desert at Disney and it seems the Buffet at the Rennaissance as well as some more Ice Cream down at Celebration.

[/quote]

mjc the Kitchen Sink looks very impressive and is fine if you like highly coloured, artifical tasting icecream - very over rated in my view[msnsad]

Thats a shame, when did they stop using quality icecream? It was always good stuff when we frequented the place.

We live here.... so here's ours:
Jack (6) Panera Bread! He loves the soup in a bread bowl. Kobi's Japanese Steak House. Kinda expensive, but he likes watching the food being cooked!
Elena (13) Olive Garden, She loves their salad bowl!
Matt (16) The Orlando Ale House on N436.
Amy (25ish) Seasons 52, Stephano's a great mom and pop Italian place here in Semilole County.
Me (over 40) Texas De Brazil, Ruth's Chris.

There are many others. The Canadian place at Epcot does a great steak. Chili's is great for lunch. Rainforest Cafe is also a great lunch place if you are in the Disney area.

We tend to miss any fast food joints. Micky D's, Burgler King, Wendys, and my personal hate.... Taco Bell!

Just thinking about their steaks is making my mouth water....

Other fav places are Outback, Bahama breeze and texas de brazil.

Least favourite are any of the buffet places -

In almost 17 years of going to Orlando ,the hands down worst food (overpriced too IMHO) was at Cooke's Fish and chip place at DTD. Not the sort of thing we would normally grab on hols to be fair, but we had just walked that far and family wanted to eat!! OMG!! It was more like " do you want food with your salt ?" , truely was the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted, fish was soooooo greasy, chips were fat and revolting, and 3 portions of Fish and chips was $30....yuk! Not for us! You live and learn.[msneek]

Who goes to Florida for fish and chips?

This reminds me of a time a few years ago we were at the Brit Pub over at Epcot on Christmas day. We were seated next to a Welsh family who were complaining about their 'traditional christmas dinner' not being like mum's at home! And they were getting irate!
I said something and was told to mind my own business!

Couldn't agree more!! But the place was FULL of Americans who seemed to be tucking in and enjoying it[msnoo] Praps we were unlucky? As I said , it is abslutely not my thing to rush to places like this at all when in Florida, bt didn't expect it to be awful. Never mind, won't do it again[msnwink] Have never been in The Brit pub in Epcot, it awlays seems popular with somebody, didn't realise they did food even to be honest[msneek]

I agree Carol, the food at Cookes is not very good at all.

We go when we are out there for longer spells and fancy some f&c as we can't get it here really but wouldn't rush back. I had it in RR when R&A took me out for dinner and it was much nicer.

This Taco Bell talk makes me laugh coz when I was in the early pregnancy stages with our youngest, we went to Florida and I absolutely CRAVED Taco Bell!! Nobody else wanted to go and it took me all week to persuade everyone that it just had to be done. Well, at the time I loved it - can't remember what I had and I know that the others weren't particularly impressed - but for me it hit the spot big time!!! Mind you, with pregnancy number one it was MacD's hash browns (again in Florida - the English ones are just not the same)so maybe it's just me, pregnancy and junk food!!

Normally my taste buds are quite sane.............

just had a catch up with this thread.....
we enjoyed olive garden last visit, had a couple of meals at ruby tuesdays which was very nice, service very good, not many people in there tho', but when Steve went to the loo a fella came out as Steve was washing his hands and went straight past him without washing his hands....i know people do this a lot but he was from the kitchen!!! couldnt eat there for days then we decided to brave it and altho it doesnt make it any better we saw the said chap again along with others were wearing disposable gloves, bit relieved....:D
not so happy with ponderosa nowadays as we have experienced other places, but ponderosa does i think if you want to spend the day in the parks, fill up with breaky cheap and cheerful, prefer golden coral, loved steak and shakes, looking forward to trying there again.... and not forgetting johnny rockets, mind you the one at the loop we found is nowhere as good as pointe orlando:D
bit disappointed with tgi's last time, service was awful, it all got cocked up, and cold food....have had much better there before...
tried applebees not that impressed very slow service
and the china buffet thing.....its on the 192 just along from the poinciana boulevard on the left hand side... orange coloured painting around it so it sticks out a bit, food was awful....luke warm... service disgusting, having never been in there before we didnt know the set up like should we just go grab the vacant table or wait... people were just looking at us....felt very stupid....anyway someone came and gave us a table that hadnt been cleaned and didnt explain what to do so we just went and got the food so guess that was the right thing.... hardly any choice....it certainly has put Steve and myself off of eating there ever again!!!
