Have to buy another washing machine, thought I might go for one of the Big US ones we use when we are away, but can`t remember the make of them, does anyone have the answer and what do you think of them if you have one.
Have looked on the web but nearlt all of them are white and I wanted the cream coloured one. Thanks Kym

All the maunfacturers are listed there, if you select the ones that have American Laundry on their drop down menus there might be a cream one.

Our washer and dryer in the villa are Whirlpool, and they are great. Much prefer them to the ones we have back in the UK.

They sell the Whirlpool ones at Costco[msnwink]
I have bought quite a few electrical things from them and if anything goes wrong they don't hestitate to give you a full refund or replacement[msnwink]
I have the Whirlpool one from Costco - about 4-5 years on, still fine, love it to bits!!

hi we looked into getting an american sized washer and dryer from this website also
we found them to be excellent value for money
what put us off was the fact that you need to have a high pressure water system and the venting for the tumbler was rather bulky
my dad is a plumber and after some pretty thorough discussions he advised us against it[msncry]
i bought a 7kg load washer instead and a condenser drier but how i wish i could have had one of those beauties[msncry]

ps i think some of the discussion also involved our "hard water"

i have the Whirlppol washer and also tumble dryer. Great for a big family but unlike the front loaders they're only a 460rpm spin so the clothes are not as dry before you put them in the tumble dryer. John Lewis do a few american ones but the best place to but the whirlpool is at costco about £350.00 one thing you should know is that the machine has to be hard wired the same as an electric cooker has to be - the wiring has to has a cooker box with it and can be switched off independently of everything else. The same goes for the tumble dryer.
This is my second american whirlpool and it does the job really well but next time i will go back to a front loader as the spin is much better on them.
the tumble dryer i have had since 2000 and its still going strong.
My kids love the machines as the put all their horse rugs in them saving a trip to the launderette. If you want to look up more details on size prices etc go to www.pricerunner.co.uk which is trlly great.
Let me know how you get on

We've had an Amana washer and an Amana dryer for eight years now. No problems since they were new!
Easy to use. I think they were from Sears.

Kym we bought our US style washer and dryer from Currys, they are both Whirlpool, absolutely no problems with them and they are brilliant.
We have Maytag in our new villa. They were available in cream. wash much quicker than at home. Love the dryer which has an intelligent dry facility - it dries until it knows the clothes are are dry as you want, damp, iron, etc.
We have Whirlpool in Florida but cream in anything in the US is more expensive than white, for some reason. Except they often call it bisque or almond.
Although the wash cycle is a whole heap shorter, you can put in things you fogot because it's a top loader and it takes a whole pile more laundry, I feel I get a cleaner wash in our UK Bosch machine, even using the same detergent.

I love my US top loading machines.......its the reason I moved to the US..so I could have one..[msnsmile2]
I would not go back to a front loader....my things come out dry enough...my FL machine being the best for that...a normal load is dry in about 20 mins...
I like being able to have the water the heat I want...and know its that heat..I can add things...so far I've not had to put things in for that second wash I was always doing in the UK...my son is in car body repair....so that is a must have....
After spending a year in states, and being involved in doing a lot of laundry! I found that US top loaders don't clean your clothes as well as British front loaders.

many people are not setting the temp on their machines right...you need turning stopcocks at the wall for the older machines...or you need to reset the temp...I go into a lot of US rental homes and find that the machine is not set up right...
If it is....you can't get a more controled wash because you know how hot the water is ...
Also people get bad washes by over filling...most bad washes are because of the person using them...and not the machine itself...

I really spoke too soon - sadly my whirlpool washing machine died a death the other day - I really should not have said how happy I was with mine!!! Its always the way. Comet are to give me the purchase value in vouchers on Thursday so now i intend to go for and LG 1600 spin with a 7.5kg load but I still have the old faithful whirpool tumble drier - or am I talking too soon.
Honestly the washing maching was my second top loader and was great but the spin was not very fast but I would buy again if the spinning capacity was improved but my villa in Tower Lake is going to have the top loader so I would recommend it to everyone.
Will report back if I have spoken too soon and jinxed my whirpool drier! Watch this space...!!!!!!!!![msnscared][msnoo][msnsmile][gun]

Hi Kym, I also agree the website that has been mentioned is a good one. We have GE appliances in our house in Florida and two years ago my washing machine in the UK packed up so, guess what we did, yes bought american. I got the matching Maytag washer and dryer and am absolutely over-the-moon with both of them.
