I am cursed with all apple products - its official! my third I-Pod has broken this week.....

First one - Battery Blew Up[msnsad]
Second One - Battery overheated and died[msnsad]
Third One - Froze and is now compltely dead![msnmad]

I know how great the I-Pod's are and SO MANY people have them and have had no problems, but I have had ENOUGH.

So today I bought myself the new Sony Walkman 6GB - in case any of you wondered - ITS FANTASTIC[clap][clap][clap][clap][clap][clap]

Already love it more then the I-POD and it's much better value then the NANO.

Sony 6GB is £160 Nano 2GB £140,

Had read a lot of bad things about the software, but I have had no problems at all.

Plus it comes in loads of colours - mine is a lovely greeny blue colour[msnsmile2]

Just gotta get all my music on now before my christmas hols next SUNDAY!

Never had a single problem with any of my iPods and they get a lot of use. You must be very unlucky.

Definately UNLUCKY - my sister has one and so does my mum - their's are both ok!

12-12-2005, 00:02
We are on to the 9th or 10th (lost track) ipod in our family and never had any problems[msnsmile]

I think the fact that you got a Nano is the problem, as I have posted before there has been many probs with them hence the law suit going on in the states[msnscared]

I didn't have a nano.

I started out with an I-Pod mini, then upgraded to a 20gb I-Pod.

Now have neither

My daughter's third one has just frozen - which is what happened to the last 2. I say frozen, you can hear something whirring trying to happen, but nothing does.

While we were in the Apple Store there were other people coming in with the same problem - this is when the second one was being resolved. So we are off next week to see if they can resolve it.

Mine works fine, I use it for about 40 minutes a day, my elder daughter's one is also fine - she uses hers less than me. The one that has gone wrong is used for a couple of hours every day - and sometimes even longer. My daughters have the large one, I have the medium one - you can see I have the terminology at the tip of my fingers!

12-12-2005, 10:07
My little boy has a our first ever ipod, it was bought as soon as they came out in the UK, its been handed down and is used everyday and still going strong, daughter has a 2nd gen ipod and it is also used constantly, mine is a 4th generation and I use it in my car everyday with no probs, my older boys have 3rd gen ipods and theirs are used for hours everyday at Uni and not probs, hubby has 2 ipods and his are fine, and we have bought 3 new video ipods for Xmas so fingers crossed they will all be fine too[msnwink]

My Mini plays up sometimes, it locked out/frooze at the start of a long journey recently and I then had to wait for the battery to run out and be recharged before it worked again. I play mine once in a blue moon but it is only about 3 months old, so I hope it is not the start of things to come. You are not alone Caroline there are huge forums out there with people who have had problems!

There are also many, many more very happy customers who are delighted with their iPod's (me included) [msnwink]

John I agree and I am a massive fan of Steve Jobs but as you probably know there are many many people who have had problems, but probably more who have not, just letting Caroline know she is not the only unlucky one. Has Apple not acknowledged there are some problems?

I'm not sure but when you are selling the HUGE volumes of product Apple does, with the best will in the world there are going to be a few that have problems. I do know it's very much the minority but as usual it's those with problens who are very vocal with those who are delighted with the product who do not feel the need to speak up.

I'm not sure it really matters - I was just trying to make a point that there are many, many more happy Apple customers than unhappy ones [msnwink]

If you are happy with your new MP3 player then that's great too [msnsmile].

I think the iPod craze is slowly dying............. Alternative MP3 players are way ahead with technology and sound quality, and the consumer seems to be aware of that now. My daughter wanted an iPod for Crimbo, I tried to discourage her, as I know of many user who are unhappy with them (More than those who are happy), but I didn't need to, she came home from school one day and said, can we look at different MP3 players, coz all my friends have got problems with theirs! Managed to get her a Zen Micro 6gb for £150, and hubby got an i-river 6gb for Christmas, both are far better in quality and sound than the iPod. I got an IOU for a player, as hubby wouldn't know which one to get me - I ordered a Toshiba Gigabeat 20gb yesterday, and the user reviews for that are wonderful, best of all I can store photo's too, all for £155!
I'm pleased for those of you who have no problems with the iPod, and yes it's true, people will complain before they praise, but there is a lot of information on the web about iPod problems. It's a shame as Apple had the right idea!

29-12-2005, 11:57
Linda, if you think the ipods are dying out then go to any Apple store and they are packed with people buying ipods and many other Apple products then go to any other store like Dixons and see how many people are buying other Mp3 players - very few!!!

Although there are some problems with some ipods I think Apple are a victim of thier own success, we have 12 ipods in our family from the 1st generation one to the very latest and all have neen fine[msnwink]

We all make our own choices but for me there is only one ipod!!![msnwink][msnwink]

I'm really pleased with my Christmas nano, but as reported it's getting scratched on the chromed face already, I'm not too bothered by this and understood that it was an issue before I bought it, (I'm not paying 25 quid for 4 covers, 3 of which I don't need either), but I can understand how someone would be very angry at spending 130 pounds on something that's going to look tatty after a week.

That said, I do like it.

If anyone has a cover for a nano that they want to sell? Let me know, colour immaterial.[msnsmile2]

I bought I-pods in October 2004 to give to my kids at Christmas, they were absolutely thrilled with them and they worked perfectly. However in November 2005 one of them had an accidental trip through the washer and drier[msnscared] not surprisingly it didn't enjoy it's journey. I had resigned myself to buying a new one and went to the Apple store at Bluewater, I took the broken one with me just to see if they could send it away to be fixed. I explained what had happened to the guy at the Genius Bar, he checked on his computer and said that because the I pod had been registered on Christmas Day 2005 it was still covered by their warranty, he wasn't interested in how the damage occurred and promptly replaced it with a new Ipod - I can't praise their customer services highly enough. When the kids want to upgrade I will definitely be sticking with Apple.

I have never had a problem with mine.

I must admit I do keep looking at the new Video IPOD in the shops, but my old Photo one will do very nicely. I don't know if I would use the Video on it.

Next purchase is a loud docking station for it.

Have to say I love my iPod and wouldn't swap it for anything. I was also very lucky and as a combined birthday/christmas present Philip got me the Bose docking station for it to use around the home. The sound quality is fantastic - I know I will never switch the CD player on again now!

Ipod's are head and shoulders above any other MP3 player on the market. It's also not just about the player itself but the whole package of iPod and iTunes and no-one comes even close to Apple on that.

They are flying off the shelves everywhere they are sold - I do not see this happening with any other competitor despite what people would like us to think.

As for sound quality, my iPod is fantastic. I did away with the earbuds that came with it and use some Bose headphones and the sound is phenomenal. I just cannot fault it - and I listen to a LOT of music.

Hubby bought it in December from a Target store in the US, as we had struggled to get one here in the UK. Maybe that was why there was no case included.

Oh, I'm not disputing that the ipods sell very well, it's all the hype! I just know that around here, they are not as popular as they were 6 months ago. People are looking to other manufacturers, but they are mainly available on the net rather than in shops....... My neighbour has been researching MP3's for 4 weeks now, as she wants something reliable, but with great sound and picture capability. She's tried the 20gb ipod, and was going to invest, but then listened to mine last weekend, and has now decided to buy the Toshiba. The sound quality is good on the ipod, but it is better on the Toshiba, as is the resolution for pictures....... Yes, the itunes software with Apple is second to none, the Tosh software is a bit naff, but you can use Napster (free for one month, and you can download as many tracks as you want in that time!) and Windows Media player 10, and that's a doddle to use, so I am happy! I did also ask the guys I used to work with in an IT team to recommend an MP3 player, and they all advised against the ipod!

I suppose I am a bit biased, but you can only comment on your own experiences, and those of others you know, and sadly they have had problems with the ipods...........

Good luck to all you ipod owners though, I'm pleased you love your players, not nice to have something you don't like! [msnwink][msnwink]
