Hi
Just a quick question about the air con in the villa we have rented
When we go out in the morning for a whole day out, do we turn it off
or leave it on, just that it seems a waste of electric if its turned on when no one is home

Hi Chris,
You should leave it on when you go out. Also make sure you follow any instructions in the villa about the temperature settings it should be on.

I usually ask my guests to turn it up to around 78/79 during the day when they will be out, and also to leave all of the ceiling fans on. The ceiling fans help to circulate the air and keep the costs down. They also reduce the temperature in the home by a couple of degrees as well.
When you come back in again, you can turn it down to the recommended temperature and within about 10 minutes you will be lovely and cool again.

Just didnt think it right to waste electricity and give the owner a huge bill, I have some
instructions about what temp etc to put it on
Sure our holiday will be great, its been 13 years since we were last there, trouble is its
still 5 weeks away. Mind you we have already decided to go next year for 3 weeks. I will be
being made redundant about this time next year so we've agreed to have a 3 week break before
I start to look for another job.

Thats great thiniing, turn it up to 79 when you go out. Alos make sure then the fan switc is set to auto and not 'on's this can freeze the unit.

I can't tell you're all brits......turn it up too 78/79 ...I would freeze to death now if I did that......LOL...!
I think you get used to the heat after a while.....when it was 95 outside.....I found it too cold indoors at 78.....when we first move to the states....I used to keep my A/C at 67.....and its not like its that hot in Mass..around the high 80's low 90's in summer....but its very humid......now I keep it around 79...and use the dehimidifiers and fans......cutting my costs in half......you can have a dehimidifier put into your A/C.....I think its a few hundred.....if we keep this house and I undate my A/C.....I'm going to look into that more......
last time I was in Floirda my friend had a de-humidifier and it was great

So cheap to run...unlike A/C.....but then again..you can't ask guests to use it unless its built into the A/C unit....it keep your real wood furniture better looking for longer too.....the A/C can crack real wood....but I'm not sure thats such a big problem in Fl....because it never goes from very cold to very hot.......
