I am interested in a trip to Bahamas via Miami. My tour operator is selling this for approx. £110. Has anyone else taken this two day trip - staying one night in Bahamas. Any advice/comments? [?]

I did a twin holiday in 92, one week in Orlando and the second in the Bahamas. I flew over and spent most if the second week trying to get back to Orlando!!!! It was expensive and wet! There are beautiful places in Florida as nice as Nassua/Paradise Island.
Only good things I remember are the white sands and Rum punch and not so good being violently ill on a boat after too much rum punch!!
There is a decent Casino. Nassua is a bit laid back, typical Carribean culture. It might be nice to go for a couple of days just to see it, but I personally would not go back through choice.

Hubbie and I went to Nassau in 2000 and stayed at the Sandels resort. Didn't see too much of the island but did hop on the Jitney buses passing by the resort to get into the main drag a few times. Quite an experience but very cheap! Lots of interesting souvenirs to be had at the Straw market but put your haggling head on and smile, as it's all part of the experience. No one was too pushy and although you do feel the change of pace, everyone was very helpful. Came back feeling most relaxed and rested.

The Atlantis resort and Casino has to be seen to be believed and although I understand it's quite expensive to stay there, not a lot of people know that you can stay at the Comfort Suites nearby which is much cheaper but you get to use all of the Atlantis facilities for free. Mum & Dad stayed there in 2002 and had a fantasic time. They toured more of the island and found some great little local restaurants, museums, forts and even went swimming with the dolphins. Quite put us to shame, well we were on Honeymoon!![:I]

thats interesting angua,
how comes you can use the facilities, surely its not just open to everyone?
i will have to do a search for the comfort suites web site.

on the main question i flew out for a few days with a mate in 1988. i have a un-loseable memory of laying on the white sands with waves crashing round me. not sure exactly where though?!?. also remember a few british type thingys. phone box and traffic cop in uniform etc. we left our main luggage on a locker at miami airport

I was surprised about that too and wondered if it was a promotion or something but I looked at one of those online booking sites earlier today and it still says "Guests are entitled to all the exclusive features of Atlantis' recreational facilities, just steps away, including the beach, pools, lagoons, Lazy River Ride, breathtaking waterslides, world class casino, health spa, tennis, golf putting course and Discovery Channel Camp for children." and the Comfort Suites site confirms it.

I think it's the only other hotel which can use the facilities. They must have "done a deal" because they were so close to the Atlantis resort (0.1m/0.2km).

After hearing about Mum & Dad's holiday, we're staying there on the next trip!

We went to the Bahamas 26/12/03 for 8 nights, stayed at Sandals and had a wonderful time. Weather was glorious ( anything would be good as it was 40 degrees F back here) The junkanoo parade on New Years eve was amazing and lasted from 2am until 10 the next morning.
Maybe the reason I liked The Bahamas better than any of the other Carribbean islands I have been to.........it reminded me of Florida and was full of Americans!!!!

I've never been to Bermuda but they do still have the red phone boxes and uniforms, flags etc. on New Providence Island (Nassau). Let's face it, the beaches are gorgeous on any of the Islands. Oh to be wiggling my toes in that white sand right now![msncool]

You're not wrong, we were one of only four British couples there. Pretty much everyone else was American, although it was quiet season. We made some great friends who we are still in contact with today. Everything about our trip was fantastic from the hotel and staff to the other patrons. Those Bajan's sure know how to live! It was the perfect relaxing week after a mad week, rushing about Orlando.

There are a few British things around in Nassua, well there was in 92.
Lots of "potheads" to! (I was only 22 might look at it differently now).

Went to bahamas (7 day cruise from Miami). Also visited Dominican republic and St Thomas. Our first cruise and it was fantastic. Liked the bahamas, managed to get on Atlantis private beach. Really liked St Thomas would definetly go back there.

We went on a cruise in March. Some of the Islands were fantastic & some were really grim. We thought St Kitts was awful & Grenada we were mithered to death with locals trying to sell you everything & anything. Really fancied Sandals at St Lucia but as Liz points out there are just as nice places in Florida & we could stay at our own villa

We are going to Bahamas with Discovery Cruises for 7 nights. Not sure what to expect but it is very cheap. For four of us (two children aged 9 and 6) it is costing just under £500 for the cruise there and back and 7 nights accommodation at the Flamingo Bay Hotel. The cruise looks great, children's entertainers, swimming pool, casino and loads to eat all included. Only 25 days to go, can't wait!

we did the trip about 15 years ago Time flies[msnscared] and loved it. Bus took us to Fort L. caught the ship 4 hour cruise with breakfast on board, then a cab picked us up (classic american car) and took us to a 5 star hotel.
The setting was beautiful, quiet bay with rays and dolphin to see, and there was a little square with a few bars and the atmosphere was fantastic. Tropical heat, everybody partying.
I'd highly reccomend it and would go again. We were staying at Miami Beach, and payed a bout £80 for the trip. I was happy with the price, but after booking it I saw a cheaper offer in a travel agents window while out shopping so it may be worth doing a search, you may get an extra night for the same price

chrissy - go mexico

i went out with karen in november for a week without the kids. my post ny maraton break(tee hee),her 40th and our wedding annivesary. apart from a travel agent/hotel glitch which saw our room cancelled? it was absolutely aaawesome. we stayed at the moon palace in cancun really fantastic 5* all inclusive. dur to the room mix up we also had 2 days at the adult only(no not like that) spa aventura. both have numerous restaurants and bars etc they both have to be seen to be believed. the mexicans staff and people were all so genuinely warm and friendly. would definitely go back - made you feel like a god. nothing too much trouble. we booked up independently from uk and smashed the big tour operators prices. also went to a eco/historic kind of discovery cove called xcarat which was excellent.
as i type i can smell the food from the brazillian restaurant large chunks of steak chicken and veal cooked and served from a sword -amazing

i could go on........
