I'd say it sounds like a great deal pity about the car hire though. This site is cheaper than any others I've looked at.

We recently paid £312 for our son to fly out with United on December 14th, and no car hire required.

Those 2 days really do make such a difference to the price. We tried every combination of dates, including Christmas Day, but the flight prices were still very high.

We are doing the same route but on the 14 December and returning 30 December. We did not have to book the car hire with the flights and booked the car hire via this site. The flights worked out for 2 adults and 2 kids £1120, so roughly the same for the flights but the car hire you have quoted is more expensive.
