I've just finished writing the code so you can add your own Avatar (picture) alongside all of your postings on the forums. To do this:

Make sure you are logged in.
Click on Profile at the top right of the screen
In the section entitled Avatar, click 'Add your own Avatar'.
In the pop-up window, enter the full path (including http://) to the image file of your avatar.
Enter a name for your Avatar, then click on 'Sumbit Avatar.
Click on Profile at the top right of the screen then highlight your new Avatar under the Avatars section and click Submit.

The actual image file for the Avatar can be either in .gif or .jpg format and no larger than 110x110 pixels in size. It can reside in any accessible place on the Internet (e.g. your own website).

Ask me if any of this is unclear - it sounds a bit complicated but it's a one-off thing.

John

Where do I get a picture from, or can I use any picture I have?

John
How do I add a picture that is not on a website i.e. on my computer desktop, is it possible via a "browse" function or some such way?
Thanks

Hi

Done all the steps as described but I can't see it anywhere - have I missed something?

Hi Blott

I've just fixed your avatar setup. You were pointing to a web page with the image you wanted in rather than pointing directly to the image itself.

You'll need to go into your profile and select the drunk mouse avatar and it should then work.

Thanks very much for your help. I've now got him/her!

Just had a thought, perhaps I should have called myself Blotto

Our's is just our logo from our own villa website (www.floridadreamvilla.co.uk). We wanted something that conveyed the fund and enjoyment of being in the sun in Florida.

I think we got it from a copyright free clip-art collection somewhere on the net.

Of course, if you have a good graphics package you can create your own animated image :).

Hi Jo

If you are logged into the forums, click on Profile at the top of the screen and you will see a section about Avatars. I've uploaded about 150 or so of them so you should be able to find one you like there. When you have chosen one you like, click the Submit button at the foot of the screen.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Hi John,
Thanks for the offer of help - I was getting close to taking you up on it, but as you can see, after a few days in front of the screen, I managed to figure it out (ie read the instructions properly!!).

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for the obvious Tinkerbell! Seen it on couple of websites including www.hiddenmickeys.org but not sure if I can use it?? Also when I have tried to download them myself, I just end up with a box showing a red cross in the corner rather than a picture???

Any help???

Thanks in advance!

Hi Tinkerbell

There's a user named 'Clos' on t-f that uses just such an avatar so if she can use it I'm sure you could too.

Looks like she got it from the same place as you saw it.

Let me know if you would like to use it and I can set it all up for you.

That would be great!!!

I spent a couple of hours yesterday looking through avatars on the animation factory website, tried to add one of them but to no avail, just kept on getting that little white box with the red cross in it. Where am I going wrong???!!!!

I'd be forever grateful if you could add Tinkerbell for me!!!!

I wish to change my avatar, but it's on my PC as opposed to being on the web. Is there a way of adding it myself or do we still send them to you??

Thanks and a Happy New Year to all

Hi, John...

I've been trying to find out how to add an "avatar" (which I assume must be a UK term...To me, Avatar means the company that built our house) and went into profile to follow the instructions posted earlier this year but didn't see anywhere that I could look at the ones you have provided. I must be doing something wrong.

Can you help? Thanks.

Lakul:

You can't have an Avatar that's on your PC because the forums need it available 24x7. The easiest thing to do is upload the avatar to your website and then in your forum profile link to it using something like http://www.mywebsite/avatar.gif. Alternatively you can send it to us and we'll sort it out for you.

Judy:

We've changed the way avatars work with the forums. Probably the easiest thing is to go to a website such as http://www.animfactory.com/ and choose an avatar (they built our houses too :D) and follow the instructions for Lakul above to link to the one you have chosen.

All done, but she now looks like she has a black eye!! She looks OK on my website.

Lakul

Go rid of her as she didn't look well. Gone into Star Trek mode now.

Sorry, I'm stuck now, I wanted to have an avatar like everyone else, so I went to the animation factory place, found an image, but can't figure what the path is I need to type to get it to appear. Can anyone help?

I copied & pasted the address line where the avatar was - nothing showed.

Hi Kerry
I must be really dim here, I can't do it even looking at the instructions as you suggest. I don't have a website so can't upload it to it. I tried saving it to my hard drive, but that doesn't work.

Heellllpppp!!!!!!!!
