View Full Version : Travelling.
In 'It's a wonderful life' George Bailey says the best sounds in the world are Anchor chains, Train whistles and Aeroplane engines.
Got to agree, I've just been looking at a plane, setting out a con trail waaaaay up high in the sky out of my office window and I can't tell you how much I'd like to be on it. I wouldn't care where it was going.
Anyone else get that feeling? I think it's called wanderlust.

Every day Macka,
Living not too far from Liverpool Airport whenever I see a plane taking off I say to the girls Guess what? They always reply "yeah you wish you were on that plane"[msnwink]

wish i was on a plane right now going to florida!!! or come to think of it anywhere in the world!!! well as long as its warm and sunny!!![msnwink]
Knowing my luck Paula, I'll dream that one day and it'll come true. I'll just appear in a seat on a plane, just in time to hear the pilot say "Good afternoon everyone we're just about to land at Birmingham aiport"
We went from Speke a good few years ago to Orlando with Direct holidays? It was actually great. I wonder if they'll ever think of doing usa flights again? I know the runway is big enough for the largest aircraft, as they've had Concorde and vulcan bombers there I think Paula? (I'll tell you the story about the mouse one day.[msnwink])
Oh Paul I miss it sooooooo much, I used to love getting on an aircraft every day even if it was to work - although many flights had night stops which were great fun and there are very few places I have not been too[clap][clap][clap][clap]

Come on the Paul tell the story.
My parents went to Orlando from Liverpool in 1996.
Concorde has been here and I remember years ago at the old airport was an aircraft carrier. It was called Galaxy and it was gimormous.
I love the smell of aviation fuel.....am I wierd.

Well, as you know Paula, I'm not one for gossip, but, We turned up for our flight with Direct Holidays 4 hours early, about 4:30 a.m. I think it was, and I swear on my life that it was closed. i.e. closed, no access to Speke airport. Firme. Closed. After about 15 minutes an old boy turned up and opened the main doors and we marched in, after that it was a breeze, they took our cases, and checked us in a treat.
We then waited an hour for the Restaurant to open, (which was brand new as they'd just refurbished the airport) and went in for brekkies. We were first in, and got a very nice cooked breakfast and sat down to eat. The next folk in, were a family with a very cute 4-5 yearold girl I'd say, the little girl was pulling and pulling her Mom's skirt saying mummy look a mousey. Mom was a bit harrassed and gave her a telling off, but I looked where she was looking, and sure enough, right in ther middle of the restaurant on the floor was a mouse sitting eating a nice little piece of toast.[laugh][laugh]
The family came down past us and I whispered in the little girl's ear "yes I saw him too" she was happy then. Bless him, he sat there munching away for quite a while until it started filling up.
I suppose we should have reported it, quite naughty not doing so really but they were so proud of the new airport we just didn't have the heart to spoil it for them.

Well Paul,
I'm presuming it's a few years since this happened as Liverpool haven't flew to Orlando for a while now. The airport has since changed again, it's been extened to twice the size it was and been renamed John Lennon Airport, apparently after some guy who lived here years ago.

No never heard of him.
It was a while ago, I think it was when Sandford first opened too. They stopped the same year if memory serves.

Drove past Birmingham airport today. All the memories of flying from there came flooding back. My kids seemed to think I'm a bit strange as I get so excited driving past. As for my hubby he just thinks I'm mad, sad and well odd!!!!
I know we've only been to Florida twice but I do so wish we could go again, but there is no way that is going to happen.
All I have now is this forum to help me dream, I had tried going cold turkey from the site but just can't keep away......[msnscared]I'm well and truly hooked.
