I've got to get this off my chest.

I know this might not be everyone's idea of a Floridian vacation, but...

Just about annually, Since 1980, our first evening after arriving in Florida used to involve a visit to the Omelette house on 192 near the junction of Old Lake Wilson Road. T-Bone steak, mashed potatoes and Gravy. Not the finest dining experience in Florida I grant you, but it was the closest thing to a &#39;proper&#39; diner you could get. The waitress was always the same old girl who was a little abrupt, but it kind of added to the experience. They had an old Wurlitzer Jukebox with a playlist that [u]never</u> changed. I used to bring a pocket full of quarters from home in readiness, and as soon as we arrived, Barry White, The first, the last, my everything went on first. It became a tradition, and it was our marker that we&#39;d arrived, and things didn&#39;t get any better than that. Two years ago, we arrived, and they&#39;d closed the Omelette house. I must say I was totally gutted. I take the song on Cd now and play it on the way from the airport, but it&#39;s not the same.:(
Anyone else got any traditions developing?
Paul.

Ah thats a shame Paul, we tend to spend our first night at the villa, have a drink by the pool, just chilling out, so I suppose thats a bit of a tradition really.[msnsmile2]

LAst night always ends up at the Outback with our friends, along with a mad scramble to pack!
First night - always in our own pool, which I am pining for, as I type :(

Our first night at the villa is always a stop at Publix and a box of southern fried chicken. Back to the villa and sit by the pool. I feel another holiday coming on.

Our last night always used to be dinner at Mad Sams, Englewood watching the sunset and the dolphins. Sadly they have closed it down and are building some condos there so we shall have to start a new 'last night' tradition.

That would be a nice condo - watching the dolphins while you have dinner. Must buy a lottery ticket at the week-end

I'll be having a Euromillions ticket. If I win 44 million, I'll buy that condo and let everyone here have it for free.

And I'll throw in a welcome bowl of fruit.

Our first (day) night is our usual shop at Publix to get the milk, and breakfast stuff, I cannot do without a good cup of tea in the morning. Always take my own teabags. Must have fried chicken, if we could ship this home we would.

But most of all we usually just drop the suitcases at the vill, shop and then go straight to a park and try an occupy ourselves and keep awake until the right time to sleep, otherwise I get up at 4.00am for days after and am shattered in the evenings.

We always go to to the villa then a quick trip to Publix for supplies, unpack and then Bob Evans for breakfast on the first morning.

Daybreak

I must admit my tradition is trying to get up earlier than anyone else and sitting outside, no matter what weather and just enjoy the peace & quiet having a cup of coffee reflecting how lucky we are to be visiting again
Another tradition i have developed with my friends daughter Jessica is boiled eggs and toasted soldiers for breakfast
It's about the only thing i can cook, so that's a bonus
Oh i can see the runny yoke now
Nevermind 9 more weeks to go[msnsmile]

Yes Dawn, I'm sure lots of us here can relate to that.

On my first visit to Florida in a villa, there was eight of us. I woke up on the first morning at 3:45 pitch black. I just couldn't get back to sleep so I tiptoed out of the bedroom so I didn't disturb my wife, and there in the Living room, were the other 6, watching the weather channel. Funny. Can't imagine what the locals think of the Brits.

Actually, my 'thing' is just like Daybreak (an appropriate name if ever I heard one!) and a sit outside early in the morning (about 6 am) by the pool watching the mist lifting over the lake with a hot cup of coffee in my hand and feeling contented quietly inside that we're back again is my first day 'thing' followed by a Ponderosa or Perkins breakfast.

we have so far been, pop to Walmart on the 192, for essentials, stay too long:D, swim, bed, early rise, and breakfast in house!! Usually branflakes, juice!! Generally we hit a Disney Park straight after:DThis October...could be a little different, will likely be our local Publix for supplies, dip in the pool, and just get everything unpacked, so we can be up and away in the morning:D Gone all tingerly just thinking about it!!

Oooooh! I've started something here.

Ok let's get serious.

Perkins or Denny's.[}:)]

Ponderosa or Sizzler.

Epcot or Magic Kingdom

Out of Perkins and Denny's - for me it would be Perkins [msntongue]

Macka

Me too Julie, Perkins for me.

Sizzler (although I'd choose perkins for breakfast too)

and Epcot.

But IHOP is better still [msntongue] [msntongue]

Only ever been to an IHOP once and it was terrible.

Should I try again?

julieanne

For breakfast IHOP is my fav (don't usually go there for other meals).

What I would say is as with all these type of places the service and food quality does vary enormously from restaurant to restaurant. The one we've used for the past couple of years at Poinicana was poor this year and we started to go to the one near to Celebration.
This one was spot on - the manager was there every morning and made sure things were running smoothly. The staff were smart and efficient and we had excellent service every time.
Hope he stays there for many years :)

Sorry Lin, [msnembarrased]

Stayed on Boggy Creek Road for first few trips and always ordered from Stadium Pizzas on the first night. Unfortunatly they have now closed down. Now we stay centrally and head to Walmart first then spend an age trying to order pizza from Papa Johns, being passed from shop to shop to find the one that delivers to our location [msnscared]

First breakfast is always IHOP. Then its off the nail bar for a pampering manicure and pedicure at half the cost of UK salons.

Only 3 months and 11 days to go now [clap]

Our routine is to have a ' big shop ' delivered shortly after arrival. Unpack, ( can't face it the day after ), eat something easily prepared, like S.F. chicked delivered hot with the groceries with potato salad, then sit out by the pool with a drink, or two. Chloe.
