Hi All,

I know we have a few people on the forums who are either pilots or very interested in flying. I just thought, as a military aviation type, that I would post a few pictures of the aircraft I have been flying for the last 6 months in Canada.
I have been a member of the Nato Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program which teaches tactics and weapons to pilots like myself. We complete around 55 hours on the BAE Hawk 115 before arriving back in the UK to fly any of the RAF front line aircraft.

If any of you have any questions, please feel free to ask, I know a few out there are intersted in military flying so ask away. Im still a bit jet lagged but all of the trips to florida make it a little more tolerable!

We never really have time to think about being lonely to be honest Liesa, things happen at a fair pace and you've always got something to be thinking about so it never really crosses my mind. It was nice sat on the plane on the way back from canada to sit back and let someone else dot he work for a change!!

Those photos are amazing Lee.

If ever you need someone to sit in the back seat and take the photos for you don't hesitate to let me know. [msnwink]

Fantastic photos Lee, I may have flown in Concorde hundreds of times but I would so love to fly in one of your aircraft!!

I will show these to my 8 y/o Louis who as you know is mad about military aviation too!

Cheers!!

Is the place where you are doing your flying the place i saw on discovery for low level training.

It said on the programme that they leave the downed aircraft where they crash to remind other trainees that what they are doing is a dangerous job.

Fantastic pics - thank you for posing them:)

Hi Nick,

The place where we used to do low level training was Goose Bay. I was much further west in Cold Lake, Alberta. If planes were downed, I dont expect that the respective Air Forces would leave them there intact (too much sensitive equipment). They may well destroy the sensitive parts and leave the rest. It is a vast expanse of nothing though so nobody would ever find it!!

Yep. The FO that I was with on that day found this photo on the internet with the time date and place that it was taken and checked his log book. Found out that it was us going into LGW early this summer.

That is quite an impressive picture Roger. We get random pictures taken all of the time, it is only when, like you say, you look at the time and date that you realise that it is you!!

But that was why God invented the 767! [msnwink]

Indeed! So do you get dual 75/76 quals Roger?

RIS

Hi Lee yes it's a common type rateing B757/767 you just have to alternate the types in the sim every 6 months. [msnsmile]

So true, wish some airlines knew that, I have flown across the pond on both and give me a 767 any day, mind you my fav was obviously Concorde - took less time to get to the shops in NY[msnwink]

Are there any subtle differences between airframes Roger. Obviously Speeds will be different but they must be fairly alike for airlines to issue a dual type rating.

That’s a really good question Lee. The Flight Deck is remarkably similar. However as one would expect some of the systems are quite different. To reflect this and as a reminder for us dim pilots these systems have different presentation to us. For example the hydraulic panel on the 757 has push switches and the 767 has rotary switches. Having said that the two types fly in a very similar way. ( The 767 just does everything a bit better! ) The speeds are actually not that different. ( The 767 has a much larger wing. )
If you have difficultly sleeping at night I could email you the 757/767 Boeing Flight Crew Training Manual. It’s actually quite readable for someone like yourself. Let me know.

What about me Roger[msnwink][msnwink][msnwink] Only joking although I have had a go at the contols of a 757, a Bac 1-11, a Trident, 737 and the Conc and a few goes on a Cessna at Barton[msnwink]

Roger what about take off and landing, I would expect the aircraft to have totally different handling Characteristics?

Sounds very strange roger but I would actually be quite interested to read about it if it is possible.

On it's way Lee

Ralph

Well yes and no. Regarding take off, it’s much the same. Pull back at about 2.5 deg/sec to the req. speed with a max pitch angle of about 20 deg.

Landing is different. The 757 lands a bit like a light aircraft. At about 20 ft. look at the end of the runway, slowly close the thrust levers and “ judge “ your rotation.
On the 767 however your eye height is just too high for this so you tend to do it much more by numbers and at about 30 ft just set up an angle of attack and let it rumble on. This tends to mean that the 767 landings tend to be very predictable if never spectacular whereas the 757 landings can be very good or really quite average as it relies more on ones judgement.

That's really interesting Roger thanks.
