View Full Version : Westhaven
Hello Folks.
I'm stopping at the Hamlet, Westhaven next time, which is a first. I'm usually on or around Hwy 27, and avoided going too far south on 27, however it seems that there's a new junction on I4 (28?) that'll get you up to the 192 really quickly. Am I right there, anyone stayed on Westhaven before and if so, what's it like?
Paul.
You are actually not all that far from 27 on Westhaven. If you turn left on your way out you end up at 27 in about 2 minutes.
If you turn right instead that do indeed take you down to a junction with I-4 at Championsgate. You turn right out of Westhaven and then after about 2 miles look for a road on your left called Champions Gate Blvd. Take this turn and this will take you up to the junction with I-4. If you are heading north towards Disney or Univeral stay in the left lane, and remember that you will pass under I-4 before turning left onto the slip road so that you merge from the right.
Okay Steve thanks, that's just about how I'd had I'd imagined it.
Paul.

Paul
The Championsgate junction with I4 is junction 58 and the one on 27 is junction 55.
Just a quick test for you ....have you noticed the change to the junction numbers on I4 in the last few years and do you know why?

The junction numbers now represent the mileage difference. In other words, between junction 58 and 55, there is a 3 mile gap. And junction 58 is 58 miles from Tampa, junction 62 is 62 miles from Tampa, etc, etc. So when you want to go from junction 58 at Championsgate to Junction 74 for Universal you know you will be travelling 16 miles (if my maths is right!).

Oh dear, me maths is not very good, especially when concentrating on driving - will have to keep my wits about me.

I was curious to know if any of the regulars realised this is what they were Dianna. Some people we knew who had been travelling knew they had changed but didnt know the reasoning behind it, apparently for some reason when the I4 was built it was one of the few interstates that didn't follow this pattern of junction numbering.
The I4 starts in Tampa so from the first junction in Tampa to Championsgate is 58 miles.
It's quite a logical way of doing things for a change and I wondered a couple of years ago why they didnt adopt the same thing here as it's so much easier when navigating any long distance to be able to know in xxxx miles to look for a junction rather than just a random number.

I agree, I think it's a great idea. I was surprised at how many people didn't know this, it seemed really obvious to me, and logic has never been my strong point [:O]

Changing the topic slightly, does anybody know when the manors at Westhaven is due to be completed? In the photos I have seen there still seems to be a lot of building work going on.
Thanks

Hi Yvonne,
we have just returned from the Manors at West Haven and I spoke with John Knights from Dean Homes. It will be completed by Nov. I have to say it's looking great. Of course I would say that[msnwink][clap][clap]
Hi Stephen
Does that mean all the roads are completed as we have received details on a villa that looks as though there is an unmade road or something running behind the pool.
I have to say that the houses all look beautiful.

Yvonne,
No road runs behind the pools or back yards. If your talking about this pic, it's just the end of the garden and then it looks onto orange groves. However, I don't know how long they will be there for. This is the view from the back of my pool.

Thanks for your quick reply No that wasn't the picture I had seen. It was of a different villa and the area seemed to be covered in tarpaulin. However I think It is probably an older picture taken before the surrounding villas were built.
I do hope your orange groves stay for a long time[msnwink]

For some reason Yvonne, I don't think the area behind us will stay empty. As you well know, land is being bought & sold. However, we will enjoy what time we have with nothing behind us.[msnsmile]

Westhaven is a great place to stay. The Hamlets is higher up the hill, and so gets a good view.
We are on the Sanctuary and back on to a conservation lake. In the early years there was a forest on the other side of the lake, but now it has been razed, and more homes are going to be built - thankfull still a long way away from our pool.

Hi Chris,
The Hamlets is on the same road as ours, hence The Manors is at the top of the hill and the view is tremendous. I didn't realise how elevated West Haven is and certainly The Manors.
Back onto I4...I didn't catch on to the mileage connection and the exit numbers[msnembarrased], I've been cursing them the last few years, it all makes sense now thanks! Unfortunately all my maps are out of date now, I'll have to stock up next time.
So I guess it's quicker to get onto the 192 via I4 from Westhaven, unless you want to get right up the west end of 192 by hwy27 then? I can only think of Outback or TJ's ribshack that would warrant a visit up there. (and TJ's has gone downhill in recent years IMHO).
10 minutes from westhaven to 192?

We find West Haven an excellent location, as Macka rightly said it provides easy access to the 192 west via US27. As well as The Outback the area around 'Splendid China' has a very good Giadarno's Italian Restaurant, TGI Fridays, Carrabbas, Red Lobster, Chinese & Japanese restaurants and lots of outlet stores and shopping parades too.
For visiting the East end of the 192 there is also a short cut, by turning right out of West Haven, left onto Champions Gate Boulevard, rather than turning on to the I-4, drive straight on. This brings you out at Old Lake Wilson Road at the Junction of the 192 near The Black Angus.
Due to the development being on higher ground we are also able to see the fireworks from Disney MGM on a clear evening.
Wooooooo, the fireworks would be a bonus J&P,:)
I'm sooooo looking forward to West haven now.
Paul.
