View Full Version : Formosa Gardens
Can anyone tell me what this community is like? Is there a club house or other facilities does anybody know? I note there are a lot of BIG houses in this community, we are still weighing up getting one big house as opposed to two together.
Formosa Gardens is a quiet, prestigious, gated community situated 1.5 miles from Disney and very close to Highway 192, with its numerous shops and restaurants, and the Formosa Gardens Shopping Plaza.
All villas are located on large plots, many with lake or woodland views from the ample sized, screened pool decks. Formosa Gardens villas are built to a superior standard and the community offers many slightly unusual villas and other larger than average properties with up to 8 bedrooms.
Formosa Gardens is so close to Disney you can see the fireworks at night.
We stayed there last year for a few days after hurricane charlie as the villa we were staying in still had no power. It has a very nice atmosphere, but does not have a club house as far as I know.[msnwink]

We find that people who rent a large home in this area are in extended family groups who would not make use of a club house. The homes are very spacious with the kinds of facilities which mean you would not need a club house.
As far as renting 2 smaller properties goes, well you know your family/friends group.I know some families who would need space away from each other and others who get more pleasure by spending time together.
One thing I would say though, whatever you decide to do on the home front, definately have enough vehicles so that you can split up during the day.
Thanks guys....I guess you are right about not needing a club house....we will have our own club.....'gift o the gab anon' as we will be catching up on years of news! [msnwink]
Hi Twiglet
We have stayed on Formosa Gardens and the houses are lovely. They do have large plots so you will find you are not too close to your neighbours (if that's what you like). It is very quiet -never heard any noise when we were there at all!!! There is no clubhouse. It has a TGI and Carabbas (Italian restaurant) just down the road, plus other restuarants very close and a supermarket too. It is very close to the 192 so very easy to start your journey off to Disney. We love Formosa and would have loved to buy a villa on there but unfortunately for us it's too expensive [msncry][msncry][msnsad]

The large homes should have two living areas.....a must I think if going away with friends and family......something I try not to do that much anymore......with room by the pool to sit out......you should have more space for a bit of quiet time........
I really liked staying on this community[msnwink]

That must be the same house we looked at many moons ago....we were going to do bed and breakfast at the time.....
Hi Chrizzy
I dont Think it was that, we had ours built in 2003, like most of phase 2, phase 1 went up in 2000/ 2002, all the homes there are either residential, or STR, nothing on there like a bed and breakfast.

The same design..more than the same house....it was early 2002....it was going to be a B and B...thats why we were interested.....but only for the people from our local country club...there was an ad in the club Christmas....maybe it never got the permit for B and B.....so people just rent it.....they have a place on Reunion too....
Alan,
I have always liked your villa, love the lake view[msnwink]
Thanks Julie
You always make me hungry (Chicken or Beef)
Recently when I had the place appraised,in the survey, he called it a POND!! cheek.
Alan
Alan, Alot of villas do back onto ponds but Formosa is definitly a LAKE!!![msnwink][msnwink]
Ooh a lake eh!
Formosa seems to be getting the thumbs up from the folks back home, as its so near disney, and also the houses are so huge, we won't be on top of each other too much! We are 8 adults and 7 cousins who will want to bunk down together and get to know each other all over again. The adults will be made up of 4 daughters and mother who won't draw breath and probably sit by the pool all night the first night we get there talking, and three brother-in-laws who will be catching up again after a long time.
Can't wait....carries on looking for suitable villa!

Theresa - you will love it[msnwink] Have you booked it yet???[msnsmile2][msnsmile2][msnsmile2]
No we are still debating times of the year.....tossing up between oct & dec, but its still full steam ahead .... can't wait to lock it in! Wah Hoo!
We own a 4 bed 3 bath on Formosa Gardens, and we love the estate.
Whilst there are no community facilities such as tennis etc, the properties are situated on oversize lots which has considerable advantages not the least of which is that the villas are set well apart from one another. Many of the STR properties have game rooms, large pools and are very spacious inside. The estate is gated and provides welcome peace and calm after the hustle and bussle of the parks.
It is so close, that you can be on Disney property in under 5 minutes if you are late getting up without having to run the 192/I4 gauntlet!

[msnsmile] Well your 'pond' looks lovely! Just looked around your villa Alan and its lovely, the 'bada bing' games room looks like it would be a hit! Formosa definately seems to be a beautiful resort, and lots of room between villas (lots of privacy for my dear old mum to come out in her bathers!)
Thanks Twiglet
She would love that Massage chair to, us old uns need a bit of manipulation now and again.

Formosa Gardens is still a fav of mine, as the properties seem very large for a big party. I like the idea of lots of masters and lots of bathrooms. Can anyone recommend any other communities that are similar in size and location, as I am browsing at the moment!
Hi Twiglet,
Sunset Lakes is in the same area as Formosa, and the homes range between 3 and 6 bedrooms. All have large rooms, the 2 storey ones mostly have 2 Masters and more than 2600 sq ft. All homes have either lake or conservations views. It is a relatively small community which is great if you needed 2 or more homes, as you would be close by.
Hope this helps
Dawn
Hi Twiglet
I stayed on Formosa a couple of years ago when 12 family members went away together. We had a 7 bed property - but nobody ever felt 'on top' of each other. It was great having our evening meal together out on the lanai!
However - have you actually sat down and worked out just how many bedrooms you will need, bearing in mind age differentials and the different sexes involved.? Seven cousins will need min 4 bedrooms (all bedrooms only hold 2 persons) You seem to then have 8 adults who could need 5 bedrooms, unless the 'solo' daughter shares with her mother? So possibly 9 bedrooms!!!
You may have to look at 2 villas 4 or 5 beds each.
Thanks Alan. Some of the houses actually have bunks in the rooms, or three single beds in a couple of the rooms, so have worked out a few that would fit us all in! So we should be alright in a 7 bedder! Thanks for your feedback though. I guess the good thing about a villa that caters for large numbers, is they have plenty of seating for gatherings around the Lanai. Sounds like you had a great holiday when you all got together.
My family meet up next week in the UK, to discuss our holiday and pick a villa. I can't wait to hear back! I am dying to 'lock it in'!!!
Twiglet you are going to have such a great time[clap][clap][clap]
Oooh I can't wait! Well I have to actually, just under three years though......[laugh]
