We have been told senior citizens can get reduced priced meals in restaurants in Orlando. Is this correct and if so, what age is classed as 'senior citizen'.
Many thanks for your replies.
It varies from place to place but generally 55 and up qualifies you .If in doubt just ask .Enjoy your holiday.

There doesn't seem to be any consistency on this. The range seems to go from around 55 up to more or less any age.
The usual advice is to order from the 'senior' menu and see if they ask. In my experience they don't but that might be because I look so old!!

Alot of places seem to be 55+, my parents usually order from the seniors menu in restaurants and most but not all are 55+.[msnsmile2]

55 is the norm although I don't know if anyone asks for ID
I've been to some places in Florida where 'senior' starts at 50! I've never been anywhere though that asks for an ID or proof of age.
I knew it had its advantages!!

Here is another tip, the Premium Outlets have "Senior Tuesdays" where you get an extra 10% off your purchases from most of the stores. I thnk you do have to show your passport though. You only have to be over 50 [msnsmile2]
It is usually 55 and in most restaurants they have a Senior Menus, though the portions do tend to be smaller, sometimes an advantage.....not that my husband would agree

55 for most of them. I think you even can get discount from airline if you over 55.

I knew there would be some bonus in looking older than I actually am, and smaller portions would be better for me. Usually the starters are enough - not that that stops me trying everyone else's in our party.

If you are buying tickets for seniors ( at Seaworld or Cypress gardens for example) they ask for ID but if you just order from the seniors menu in a diner eg Perkins they don't ask because the portions are smaller anyway.
In my experience its 55 in most places that sell tickets and want ID
IHOP do a seniors menu - I think they're 55+ too. [msntongue]
Golden Corral do too , but it only reduces the price by a couple of dollars as with most buffets, you pay by the person.
You can certainly get a discount from Blockbuster video if you are 50+
We have a lot of American friends and all say that a restaurant is not allowed to ask your age as it is ageist but generally 55 is the norm
It varies from 50 upwards but 55 is the most usual, but they never ask for proof of age. Try the 'Seniors' breakfast menu at Perkins, it is terrific and much more than enough.
If it is ageist to ask a persons age is is not also ageist to give a discount to people over a certain age or even under a certain age, would it not be better to have a smaller portion menu for everyone[msnscared]

I've been a senior for a while now; it is worth asking for a senior meal anywhere you eat. At worst you'll get a small discount.
