Caladesi Island

Hello all......

We are planning on swimming with the Manatees at Crystal River next March [clap][clap]
On the way back ( as it finishes at ~9 am ) we thought of going to
Caladesi Island .
Has anybody been there ??
Is it safe to swim in the water, as I have 3 boys who are water rats!!

We've been there. It is beautiful but has no buildings or shade on the beach. You can hire an umbrella and you do need it. Swimming in the sea was great, in fact it was the only place to be because it was too hot on the beach. You'll probably be fine in March, and we had dolphins swimming alongside our boat on the way over.

Dunedin was a nice town for lunch - we had a great Mexican and the restaurant wasn't a chain.

I have read in another forum about stingray warnings on Caladesi...did you come across them ?????

We warned about the stingrays but didn't see any!
