NEWCASTLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
TAKES A BITE OF THE BIG APPLE!

American Airlines Launches Daily Route to the

City That Never Sleeps

Today Newcastle International Airport announced a new daily, scheduled service to New York JFK. Commencing May 2006, American Airlines, the world’s largest airline, will link the two cities with a non-stop service for the first time in the airport’s history.

Daily flights to New York will be operated by American Airlines using Boeing 757 aircraft offering, an all-economy class service with 188 seats. Seats will go on sale early August 2005.

Good news for some, however we have used the AA Manchester to Boston route before on the 757 and its a bog standard plane with no seat back TV's very little extra leg room and the dreaded one aisle.

Like you say it is good news for Newcastle just a shame its a bog standard 757[msnscared]And you all know my views on 757's on trans atlantics[msnwink][msnwink]

Hey don't knock it!

This is great news for everyone more seats = more choice and more capacity at Manchester, Glasgow and London if 180 members of the Toon are flying to the USA another way. Hopefully more competition and capacity means lower prices.

If I remember rightly weren't Continental starting flying to NY from Bristol too?

It seems like the spoke and hub model is becoming out dated over here at least, lets have more direct to MCO/TPA/MIA now.

Might encourage AA to start flying to Orlando from NCL. 'Bout time Excel had some serious competition !! [msnwink]

Orlando is not a gateway city for AA and the 757 doesn't have the range to get to Orlando.

That said it is easy to fly from New York to Orlando.

American Airlines have today announced that due to 'high jet fuel prices and the economic climate' they have decided not to go ahead with this new service in 2006.

Can't be good news for UK passengers when any carrier believes that new routes aren't going to be profitable.

Yup! The North East news progs are always talking about expansion at NCL and extended runways and services, but we still only have two flights a week to Florida and no choice of airlines. [msnsad]
Suppose we should be grateful really - Teesside Airport don't even have one flight to FL. now!

Julie ,
I daresay you can if you don't mind interconnecting flights. We went from there to Amsterdam a couple of years ago (then onward to Orlando MCO), but what a long day! Arrived at Teesside 4am (for 6am flight) - it was closed! Only one other couple there in the main waiting area. No staff - refreshments closed - magazine stall closed - no inquiry desks open. I'll stick with
NCL thanks! [msnwink]
