View Full Version : When to visit?

What's a good time to visit, when its still warm enough for parks, but not so many queues for things?

Trying to tee up dates with family in UK, as our school holidays in Australia run like this:

Summer Holidays mid-December thru end of January, then two weeks in April, two weeks end of July and two weeks September. Our UK family would have school holidays at differing times, in line with the northern and southern hemisphere summers!

So what would end of Jan/early Feb be like in Florida, or maybe September?

End of Jan early Feb Uk children would be in school, are you trying to avoid school hols or tie them up?[msnwink] September Uk children would also be in school apart from possibly the first week too.

I was planning on taking kids to England for Xmas, show them a 'proper' christmas in Blighty, and then we are all going to Florida for the reunion. OR maybe go home for English summer and then to Orlando! Either way my kids are going to be out of school for a few weeks, and their english cousins will probably have to sacrifice a few days out of their term time too.

Oh and avoiding queues would be great [msntongue]

Sounds like a good idea to do christmas here and then fly out to Florida in January.....still would mean uk children would lose some time from school (don't think they would mind tooo much)[msnwink]

i think for a reunion as big as this is going to be it wont matter as much about the children being out of school for a short while, this is an important get together as your meeting up from different countires, never going to get the same holidays!

i think christmas would be nicer for all to be with family at such a lovely time of year, why not do christmas in florida and have a bit of a winter in the UK first,

September is generally a quieter time to go to Florida and is still lovely and warm. Early February is also a less hectic time to go and usually warm, we went the last week of February this year and had a great time.[msnsmile2]

Having now tried most months, we love going in late April/early May and late Sept/early Oct.
Temperatures are usually in mid - eighties and humidity is great. Most schools are in term time
so the parks are not too busy.

We always take September for our main holidays. Definitely less queues and the climate is usually just right, plenty of sunshine but not too humid.:)

Definately September.
Was out last sept and will be back this sept.
Very few queues and temperature is very nice and humidity dropping. No need for pool heating either.

I would vote for either January or September. January is definitely not a busy time, but it will be cooler than September. You will need pool heating in January, but not September.

There looks like two possibilities to work in with both sets of school holidays. Either Christmas/New Year or July. Easter may have been a possibility but not for the years you're thinking of going. Both would be pretty busy times but Christmas is very special in the Orlando area and, for a once in a lifetime type of reunion, would be great.

I don't know about Australia but some of the UK schools get pretty upset about kids taking time off outside school holidays. If the UK kids can get out of school, then I agree with the others that September would be a good time to visit Florida as the weather's good and the queues are shorter.

September is a great time for going Twiglet. You find lots and lots of villa owners out in Florida in September/October (and also February/March). I think that says it all!

Its a tricky one, as if we go Jan/Feb my kids miss their first few days back in a new school year, as our school year commences Jan.

Same with September, as their cousins will miss out on their first few days at school, unless we make it end of September, which is a possibility I guess. Maybe we can fly to UK in August, go visit relatives in Ireland first couple of weeks of Sept, and then fly to Florida end of Sept/early Oct.

Thanks for your help with the weather situation!

Hi Twiglet

I would agree that September is a great combination of warm weather with very small queues.

Another possibility for you could be to visit Orlando first and meet up with your family there in early December, probably the quietest time of year altogether. The parks and homes will have all their Christmas decorations up and the parades etc will be on so you get the atmosphere of Christmas without the price tag or queues, then afterwards make your journey together back to U.K for your traditional English Christmas.

Hi Twiglet

January can be a little on the cold side. It's pot luck really.
We got married in Florida in January 2001. Had a great first week, but the second week was a bit chilly!
Of course I mean chilly by Florida standards! It's nice a quiet in the parks though.

September would be a lot warmer. And quieter than the summer months.
Depends if you want to do water parks? you need the good weather for those.

We have been in April, May, June, July and September/october and I would definately say the that Sept/Oct is the best. We had a trip in 1997 where we only had rain on 1 day out of 2 weeks and I am talking any rain!

We also went Sept 2003 and had rain every day but we did every ride in all the parks and didn't need to use Fastpass on anything in a Disney park and only MIB in Universal.

September gets my vote and August gets my goat!

Cheers

What's August like? Is it bearable...heat wise? We would be ok, we are used to heat, just wondering about the poms [msnwink]

Twiglet,

August can be very hot and wet.Temperatures in 90s to over 100 with quite high humidity and
tropical thunderstorms. On clear days temperatures can get even higher. (So you have to go to the parks to get soaked anyway !! )

In the past we have always been April into May and it has been beautiful. This year we went in June, it was lovely, just a little on the wet side. But, when it did rain you got a heavy downpore which lasted about an hour then it was lovely again. Certainly didn't put us off anyway. Booked for July next year.

BUT REMEMBER Florida is PERFECT any time of the year.

I like all these votes for Sept!!! We are going in Sept this year, first time at this time of year although we did last week of Oct last year and it was great.
Whatever you choose Twiglet I hope you have a great time and that your family reunion is all you would wish:D:D

Liz, I love September too! We are heading down the 10th to the 17th. Admittedly, we are pulling some out of school, but oh well!
