Guests and/or villa owners,

Do you consider having a BBQ (Gas) by the pool :

I love to have BBQ's by the pool it's great to sit back with some grub and a nice chilled glass of vino while the kids splash about in the swimming pool.[8D]

on our first trip to florida we "hired" the villa one, and used it once, didnt see the point as we had to use it away from the pool fly screen, to far to keep running back and forth, so have put Not Bothered in the way of it wasnt nessecary nor will we hire one again i dont think?[msnwink]

I suppose it is a pain that they are never cleaned properly and agree that it is a nuisance that they have to be outside the pool screen, but it is one way of getting hubby to do all the cooking[msntongue]

In the context of Hotels and SRT Villas
This poll need to take acount of:-
In certain counties the local fire chief ruled that BBQ's were dangerous; not to be had under pool screens, not to store gas or fuel in the garage/villa.

Now there is a new ruling covering all hotels and SRT homes from 1/7/05 that ban BBQ's from under pool screens and the storage of gas or fuel in the garage/villa. This is anticipated being a state wide law shortly.

This could mean that only fixed BBQ's external to the property will be acceptable...

We have a fixed large gas BBQ on an area just outside our pool screen, It seems popular with American guests but we would not have had one put in for our use.
We tend to have salads and cold cuts in the pool area.
At home in the UK we have BBQ's in the garden because we do not have a pool so it makes a good outdoor social activity.

It seems the american all like BBQ's. I let my guests hire one from my MC if they want one. No problems with people not cleaning them then.

Voted for "never use one".

Not because we don't want to, but because every Villa we have stayed in has had a really clean, pristine bbq available for us and we didn't want to be the ones to mess it up.

If it was obviously well used we'd be more relaxed about it.

I voted not bothered, we don't have one at the villa but can hire one through our MC for guests that would like one, don't fancy having to clean one up when we visit if it was in place at the villa all the time.

So I think that when we get a new one we shall get a lock up storage cupboard for it.

We dont have a gas one but have a large George Forman electric grill which can used inside or out. Comes on it own stand and takes less than a few minutes to clean. Granted you dont get the smoke but you dont get the mess as well.

Agree that the American guests love the fixed gas BBQ's. We made friends with an American family from Michigan who cooked on theirs most days.

We recently rented a home in CA which had a BBQ. We used it ( and cleaned it[msnwink])because it was there. It wouldn't have bothered us if there wasn't one.

My parents have one of these out in Spain and they are excellent. We have a baby one that I use at home and I wouldn't be without it.

We love BBQs at home, but they are a swine to clean and when in Florida we buy a cheap griddle pan from Ikea and use that for our steaks always works well.
