Many thanks
andrew
They look good to me, and they are offical Apple products[msnwink]
Being the IPOD and gadget Guru they are rated as the best headphones you can by for any MP3 player. (What Hi-Fi rates them as 5 star)
You can also get them in white if you look on the net (much better with the IPOD white).
They will fit into the jack plug on the plane, but you might only get 1 channel, unless you have an adaptor to break out into 2.
The headphones you have shown are what is called noice canceling which means you will not hear any screaming kids when you put them on (Cool!)
Hope this helps

Thanks Lucy and Dom.
Dom I am being a bit dense here but when you say you only get 1 channel instead of 2 unless you have an adaptor on a plane, what does they actually mean in practical terms when you are watching a movie.
andrew
It means you will only hear in one ear.
But from what i can see in the advert you get the double mono splitter as well, so you will get sound in both ears.

Were the BOSE noise cancelling headphones in that test? They seem to be regarded as the very best by a lot of reviewers. Mind you, at £300 ($300 in the US)per pair they should be!!! You get a pair provided in First & Business on American Airlines but they are VERY careful to see you don't take them with you when you arrive. That's the only times I have used them.
There have been few threads on this subject if you do a search Andrew. If I recall correctly the ones you refer to seem to be well liked and are certainly much cheaper than the BOSE. I bought a pair of noise cancelling headphones in Radio Shack recently for the equivalent of £50. Worked well on all the flights I have taken since.

I've got a pair of the Bose ones and they are absolutely fabulous. If you use them on the plane and close your eyes you could be anywhere as you hear nothing but very high quality music. Well worth the money IMHO.
They make my iPod sound just fabulous and really show how bad the default earbud iPod headphones are.

Yes I agree they are very good John but I just couldn't persuade myself (or my wife) that they were worth 6 times the cost of the ones I bought. I've already starting dropping hints for Christmas (some hope!).
I would stick with the £80 Senheiser Headphones. They are good value for money and sound great (I have a pair in white). I like the BOSE but would not pay the extra.
Just remembered we used to have the Sennheiser headphones on Concorde, they were amazing[msnsmile2]

You must have money to throw away [:O]

Hi Andrew,
From what I've seen there seems to be three tiers of noise cancelling headphones, in terms of price and quality. Products within each tier are of similar price and of similar quality.
Top tier without doubt are the Bose headphones. They are quite honestly untouchable with this type of technology, however they do come at a price. Just like everything in life you get what you pay for.
Second tier are the sets that retail around the £70-£90 mark. There are heaps of headphones to choose from. Your Sennheisers sit very comfortably here. I have a pair of Sonys that are very similar to the Sennheisers. They work well, cancel all the low rumbling noises and are generally pretty good. If you don't want to stretch to the Bose these products are a good buy.
Bottom tier typically retail sub £40 and include products like the PlaneQuiets. To be honest I'd steer well clear of these as they are pretty pants as noise cancelling headphones go. I've tried a pair of PlaneQuiets and they just don't cancel noise. They're a big let down.
The Sennheisers are going on Ebay for £49 + £9.75 next day shipping,

Maybe so.. but I mean, [bad language filtered out] hell.
£300 is RIDICULOUS, dont you think?
For a piece of plastic that you stick in your ear to hear music.
Thats probably more than the actual music player!
My 16 y/o daughter would probably buy the Sennheiser MX500 White Earphones £24.99 as her ipod earphones have worn out[msnwink] My ipod is only 10 months old so mine are ok[msnsmile2]

The BOSE headphones have the double socket adaptor in the kit for planes like Continental (with 2 prongs)
The sennheiser ones are also excellent, and the original ones linked to in the first post have an Empower plug for charging the iPod at the same time - wicked!!
Like John, I swear by my original Bose comfort headphones bought as refurbished from a Bose store in Portsmouth (Gunwharf Quays), while we were visiting my daughter at University.
Don't forget resales, even on headphones, - not just villas
