View Full Version : Brit shops
I am an ex pat living in Virginia, but will be renting a villa in Fl and would like to know if you can send me in the direction of any Britsh food shops in the Orlando area, I hear there are quite a few of them, any help is really appreciated,
Thanks Linda
i noticed in publix and walmart that they have an 'ethnic' type section which includes good old brit foods at inflated prices, cant beat a bit of sarsons on ya chips(sorry fries)!
There is a small english food shop in Old Town but its a bit touristy[msnscared] and very expensive[msnsad]

Hi Linda
There is a small shopping plaza on the 192 near Vista del Lago. The shop there called Churchills sells everything British that you may miss from home. They even sell "proper" unsmoked lean bacon - not the streaky stuff you get everywhere else in Florida.[clap]

Now that is worth knowing, we miss our Brit bacon when in Florida, find the US stuff a bit watery.[msnsmile2]
Would be interested to know what you miss Linda someone else on the forum said salad cream
Last time we went we noticed that one of the main supermarkets had a section of British foods. Sorry not too sure which one, could have been Publix or The Market Place by the Florida Choice office.
what don't I miss [msncry] all the sweets, heinz baked beans, sausages[msnsad], twiglets, jaffa cakes, cheese, good butter, cakes, I mean the ones with marzipan and icing, nice fruity ones:)

Quite a list then Linda.[msnoo][msnsmile]
Crikey, shouldnt have asked. Mine is just a real Northern thing. Hollands meat & potato pie with chips, peas and gravy! How sad.
Given the choice I think I could live without them anyway
my husband misses only his pie and chips and fish and chips, the good greasy kind...

Another sad British expat missing decent food here. Publix on highway 27 and the one near the junction of 27 and 192 both have Brit food sections as does Cagans Crossing WalMart on 27 north towards Clermont and the one in Kissimmee by Medieval Times.
They all sell different stuff but if you go in all of them you should be able to find Heinz and HP beans, Ambrosia rice pud and canned custard, canned Heinz treacle puds, digestives and hobknobs ( chocolate and plain), canned curry sauce, bisto, branston pickle, Heinz salad cream, brown sauce, mint sauce, mixes for chip shop gravy and shepherds pie, teabags, pickled onions, fruit squashes, tinned Heinz soup ( usually tomato and vegetable), canned Heinz spaghetti, jelly babies, various chocolate bars. Have to admit I have bought most of these, you have to try and not look at the 40p sign on the $4 jar of Branston you are buying!!! I have seen jaffa cakes but they dont always have them. No cheshire cheese or English sausages though.
Walgreens at the junction of highways 27 and 54 have jumped on the bandwagon with a small British section, I found Heinz potato and leek soup in there the other day.
Churchills English teashop has a larger selection of food including some frozen stuff. There is supposedly an English food warehouse on LB Mcloud in Orlando where these shops all get their supplies from but have yet to find it, even though I have been told they have Mr Kiplings cakes!!
There are a fair amount of English pubs doing pub grub. Coconut Willies on 192 does cornish pasty, steak and kidney pie, fish and chips, chicken and beef curry, roast beef, roast spuds and yorkshire, sausage and mash etc though no English puds. Bennigans on 192 near Watermania does sticky toffee pudding though with icecream not custard!! The Rose and Crown in Epcot has the best English puds around.
If you miss a real English curry, Sangam in the Polo Park plaza just as you turn from 192 onto 27 south do a great curry, onion bharjis, naan etc.
Enjoy, My mouth is watering:D
