I was hoping to buy some decent kitchen kinives when over in Florida in oct. Would I be allowed to carry them back on a Virgin flight in my suitcase if properly packaged??

Thanks

Ste

Should not be a problem carrying knives in your suitcase. It is only hand (cabin) luggage that has restrictions.

It might be a good idea to check out the Virgin website.
They have a list of useful tips for travellers including items that are restricted.

I brought back a set of cutlery in our hold luggage recently with no problems. :)

It should be Ok.

As long as they are not in your hand luggage.

I cant see any big problems as long as they are in your checked luggage, we brought home a tool kit three weeks ago without any problems. Our bags were opened by the homeland security at the airport, but they left a little letter explaining what they had done.

Don't put locks on your case, or they will just break them off. We tie our cases closed with ribbon or cable-ties, which can easily be replaced.

They will be fine in your case, no probs at all![msnwink]

It certainly does. Just hope I can find some good deals on either Whusthoff or Henckels knives.

Any advice on where to look would be appreciated

Hi Ste,

I bought a set of kitchen knives a couple of years ago, but wrapped them and handed them in at check in, they were placed in the "Fragile" hold and just collected them on arrival at Gatwick.

Hi Val

Where's the "Fragile" hold[?]

There is normally a separate bit for fragile or over sized baggage where you drop your things off after you have checked in.

We bought back a set of knives a couple of years ago, so did our in laws. No problems whatsoever, we put them in the main luggage.

Ha yes, but where does it go on the aircraft? Maybe with all the other bags methinks. [msneek]

There is no problem with carrying knives in your suitcase.
If you have anything fragile they also have a separate checked in for that.
